Hopson's body language

Scotty is a good player. The problem is how easy he can become a great player.

I think alot of it is in his head now that he's missing shots and it's making him think about it or almost "over-correct" at other times

I think it's all mental at this point. It's obvious he has zero confidence at the moment. When that shot isn't falling, his only option becomes driving to the hole. He just doesn't have the ball handling skills to drive consistently. I'm hoping he can get it going because we need him.

exactly....never seen a player so disinterested in the NCAA tournament. It's like he is content with filling minutes at this point. Wish Chism would give Scotty a kick or two.....

or three, or four.. and he doesn't even need to wait until he's down. Just rear back and give it to him.

Thinks too much & appears to have a low confidence level presently. Just too slow to react. Many times he's open for that second when Lofton would just bust it and he doesn't even take a look. Doesn't make sense because he's pretty quick when going to the basket so it seems he should be able to just quickly pull up and let it fly. Did like the comment last night that obvoiusly Pearl has faith to keep playing him as many minutes as he does. Just needs to grow up and understand his ability can take the Team to the next level, play loose and do what he does best - drop it from the outside. When he hits stride and force more defending outside we can tear up the paint, but until he's willing to take/make those shots he's passing on, opponents will continue to lag back.

It's not his scoring, it is his efficiency on the floor. He might score 19 points but during that same game he probably made 5 or 6 tremendously stupid and preventable errors that cost the team 10 points or more.

Take for instance last game, he botched a lay-up or made a bad turnover (forgot which one) and stands around with his head in the sky while the guy he is guarding races down the floor and makes an easy lay-up. Don't let the fact that he was a McDonald's All-American and Rivals 5-star blind you, this guy just isnt a player, simple as that. He is very athletic and looks good on paper but he just isnt that good.

On the other hand, he has the potential to become a great player a week from now, a year from now, or 2 years down the road but currently he is very overrated and shoots himself and this team in the foot very often.

These are big games. He disappears in big games. Simple as that.
Yeah unfortunately the big games during the rest of the regular season might disagree with the last part of your assessment

He was decent last night, he hit some big 3's for us and had 3 boards and 3 assists, he just has so much potential, or hype, that we expect a lot more from him. Also, he makes it so obvious when his confidence is lacking that it makes him seem like he is playing so much worse than what may be the case.

I think Hopson has 1 big problem that hurts him in ball games and that is he knows if he has to put the ball on the floor he is in trouble. He just cant control the ball,he needs spend the off season at a ball handling camp.I believe this what kills Hopsons game.If he doesnt have a wide open shot then he is all but useless. If he could handle the ball I think his game would elevate to an all american.Just watch the game tomorrow and you can tell he doesnt want to put the ball on the floor.

I think something has to be going on. It's obvious that he's just not all there for some reason.

well since we are going to use one instance to effect our opinions on a player, last night scotty missed a 3 then intercepted the long outlet pass to prevent an easy layup. If that isn't effort I don't know what is

Truly think he is being Man handled and the same issue is the one he started with before. Soft and needs to put some meat on them bones

Needs to be in the gym. He is getting handled physcially and it is wearing on him mentality. He is a little soft. Right now he is playing without confidence and as if he is afraid to step up. It is commonly refered to as a slump but this is because of the pressure physically on him. Saw it last night when he passed up on the three to pass it off.

Has anyone seen Scotty Hopson actually break a sweat during a game? I have yet to. I am wondering if it is a weird genetic phenomenon or is it just his lack of effort...Im thinkin the last one...

I thought his play last night was better than the SECT games. He is clearly lacking confidence as everyone has pointed out. Pearl could incorporate some curl cuts in places to get him the ball moving towards the lane.
