Horns Down Gesture Will Now Draw a Flag

I believe Erik Ainge did it after throwing a TD pass in the 2006 game to take the lead. Thought it was terrible juju then and still do now.

I'm all for doing it after the game, after you've won (like Grant/Admiral did in basketball), but doing it during a game, especially doing it during a competitive game, is just asking for humiliation.

Yep, forgot about that one.
Greatest game ever played in the swamp and not even close:

December 1, 2001 Gainesville, Florida #5 Tennessee34 #2 Florida32

Actually, for anyone without a emotional attachment to either team, it was indeed a great game…for UT fans even moreso.

Unfortunately for you guys, the following Saturday happened.

UT made a video about the 2001 season. That tells you everything you need to know right there, but I'll continue. If you watch the part of that video that talks about the Florida game, it is so painfully obviously hindsight why we lost the following week.

I mean, I get it was a big win, but really? If you showed me this footage with no context, I would think this was a national championship celebration. And this is maybe out of pocket, but I'll even blame the fans partially for that one. When you have that many people show up to see the team after a big win, what is the school supposed to do? Tell them to take a hike, go home, there's an even bigger game to play next week? I suppose Saban could get away with telling their fans something like that but that's because he's won 6 titles.

Yeah the best parallel I could think of would be the 1980 US Olympic hockey team beating the Russians, then losing to Finland in the gold medal game. The win over Russia loses its shine.

But I don’t begrudge UT fans for celebrating like they’d won a national title. It’s on the coaches for not having the players ready the following week.

In a totally unrelated note, that is the most overlooked part of the Miracle on Ice...as big as it was that wasn't the gold medal game, and they maintained their composure enough to actually win gold in the next game.
