Wtf are you politicizing? Anyone can get a gun in the US and transport over state lines. This is another horrible gun violence tragedy and it happens all the time here. Sickening.
He’s politicizing basic common sense as opposed to the lies of the gun control lobby. Gun control laws where this crime happened are some of the toughest in the country, and they haven’t worked because gun crime there is as bad as it gets.

I don't think it was politicizing as much as expressing (appropriate) anger that a great city is either too corrupt, too agenda-hindered, or too weak to provide its citizens with the most basic protections.

This particular death we recognize because of our familiarity with her son Carnell, and the bitter realization that her life would have been drastically better only a few years from now, had she survived living in Chicago. But the larger point is, each year between 500 and 800 have been murdered in Chicago, and too many were innocent bystanders, minding their own business.

I wonder how many of our coaching staff have sat in her home, had long conversations, and enjoyed a real relationship with her from that recruitment time. Those relationships are real, and a son's final decision doesn't erase that.

Chicago had 695 homicides in 2022 with a population ~2.8 million.

Memphis had 302 in 2022 with a population ~620K.

On a per capita basis, Memphis is far more dangerous than Chicago...

I get your point but there are like what, 6 cities more dangerous in the continental US? Detroit, Baltimore, Vegas, Cleveland, New Orleans, St Louis.

Chicago still has a high crime rate. Some areas can be 5 to 10 times higher than the national average.

provide its citizens with the most basic protections.

And how do you propose they do that?

That's the thing about guns, if someone wants to grab a gun and just start dropping random people, or get in their car and do drive bys on random people - there really is nothing that can stop them. Murica.

What you say is true about random "someones," but most of Chicago's flying bullet problem is gang turf wars. The political leaders (whether with or against police preferences, I don't know) have chosen a laissez-faire strategy, letting the gangs fight it out to determine a winner. Once power is consolidated, police/city officials would deal with that gang leadership.

They aren't the first large city to take that approach, so for someone it has its benefits.

Just not for the innocent populace.

Sure, and someone can go mow down dozens with a vehicle....as we have seen before. No need for a gun. I think he was saying that if law abiding citizens can be armed at least they have a fighting chance and make a harder target. Soft targets are a killers wet dream.
