Can anyone recommend me some horror movies? I like blood/gore types, but really what I'm looking for is something that's not so in your face with the scary stuff. I prefer something that's mysterious, like the feeling of being watched or something. An example might be something like 'The Mothman Prophecies'. It has some pretty slow parts, but I like the creepy factor of it. A bit supernatural and some mystery.

The Witch
Let the Right One In (Swedish one not the American one)

Then you have Insidious, the paranormal activity movies, blair witch, etc.

I'm mainly into stuff like The Thing, Return of the Living Dead, anything Evil Dead, etc. But the Witch and Let the Right One In were two horror movies without any gore that I can remember that were pretty good.

I haven't seen a number of these, so this is a good start. I've only seen the Blair Witch and The Thing. I've only seen 'Army of Darkness' in the Evil Dead series, I liked that...but I've seriously been slacking on horror movies which is why I'm asking too. I liked the time travel aspect of that movie. Are the rest of the films as good as that? I haven't seen the others.

I certainly don't mind gore types, but I like being spooked or creeped out. And not always an in your face violent flick. I don't know if it's classified as horror, but Event Horizon is a pretty good example. For instance, just the prospect of exploring an abandoned ship in space and not being sure what is on it creeps me out. I guess it's more of a mystery type. I really like science-fiction normally.

The Thing was kind of a perfect balance. It was creepy and it was gory. This scene was very unsettling for me and I loved it:

Especially the part where they are standing in a sort of semi-circle around him as he's letting out that horrifying scream. Then the camera pans around them and you just see how horrified they are. The music was also really eerie and well done.

I'll check into these movies though see if one stands out to me. Thanks.

I saw Horror movie suggestions and got excited, then saw supernatural and realized I was completely useless. Lol

The Thing is my favorite. My ringtone is the music from the movie. The gore is fantastic and the music is excellent. Best type of horror movie too. Secluded and something is bumping people off.

I was just describing the movie I mentioned. Supernatural is also similar to paranormal, magic, the occult. Why would you be useless? A lot of horror movies are supernatural.

Hereditary was good this year. The Babdook is also very good.

I'm going to watch 'Hereditary' today. Watched the trailer last night, looks really good. Just the kind I was thinking of. 'The Witch' looks quite good too. So does 'The Babadook' and 'Let the Right One In'. I watched trailers for all of those last night. But 'Hereditary' and 'The Witch' probably stood out the most to me.

Yeah, I really like the seclusion of it. Because it didn't seem like there would be much help coming if something did kick off. And getting paranoid about who would be next in the group. I really enjoy movies like that. I've heard bad things about the follow up films. Are they really that bad? 'Prince of Darkness' or 'In the Mouth of Madness'.

The Thing with Kurt Russel is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. The practical effects still hold up very well..and the entire story is great...pay attention to the ending next time when the two dudes are talking outside....

Things that may kinda fit your criteria that jumped into my head.

Candyman
The Ring
The Descent
The Shining
Ju-On:The Grudge
Oculus
It Follows
Mama
Alien
Pandorum
Pitch Black

Maybe research a little on them to see what may look to be in your strike zone.

I'm completely opposite of newt on this. I like horror, but hereditary was a dud to me, almost bored me to stopping. We all have different taste though.

I'm having to start and stop at times because other things are happening. I'm so far 50 mins into the movie...just after the car scene.

That was the best part for me 😆

I did notice when I watched the trailer, not everyone seemed to like it of course. Some thought it was funny. It was a WTF moment for me. I'm interested in the family drama going on right now though as a result of what happened. Everyone copes differently, I guess. I was a little surprised how the boy reacted to the whole thing, like he almost just pretended it didn't happen. As if he was afraid to look at what happened. I just saw the mom blow up at the dinner table over it. About him not taking responsibility and how nobody wants to admit to anything they've done. I'm kinda liking it really, but now I'm just wondering...there is a lot of movie left, where is this going now? haha

The ending credits song completely changed the mood. haha Felt like that was out of some feel good '70s movie. I believe I understand it though. The grandmother was trying to find a host for Paimon to take over and it had to be male. The mother of Peter, was trying to stop her influence and thus revealed things like how she tried to have a miscarriage to keep Peter from even being born. And there was something special about that bloodline. Which is why Paimon took over Peter and not his father. I kinda knew something was up with Joan, she seems to fit the stereotypical fanatic of some cult. Kind of possessive and trying to draw people closer. The way she would pity and physical in touch. Like grabbing you and making you listen to her. But underneath all of that is a very honest take on a family grieving over something they have no control of. Whether it be something traumatic or maybe dealing with mental illness. Like losing someone and how they still resonate in our memories.

I think I just went in expecting something like the conjouring, and it wasn't.

I haven't seen 'The Conjuring', but maybe I'll add that to the list. All in all, I thought it was a pretty good movie. Maybe not one I would watch over and over again. I enjoyed the cinematography at parts and some of the acting was good. I really liked the mother the most as far as acting talent. I did chuckle though at the part where Peter woke up after being in that school incident. And he was looking around from his bed and his mother flew behind him and out the door.
