Horror Movie Recommendations (Some spoilers inside.)

I said me, not Jerry! You should look that scene up, it's good!

Now that I've had a little bit more time to reflect on it, I'd maybe give it a 7/10. I feel like the pacing was a bit off and perhaps some of the movie could have been trimmed. I did want to see more of the girl. I also felt like they perhaps waited too long to deliver the like last 20-30 mins of the film. Where it was really starting to pick up. But I did enjoy the acting, the music, the cinematography. The mother, played by Toni Collette, was one of the best parts of the movie. And I really liked the dinner table scene where she is letting it all out. I can see why some people had higher expectations, the trailer was actually really good. And I think it was almost there at being a really great film, but some things needed to be changed to reach that.

Edit: I probably would watch it again actually. It gave me some things that I didn't know I enjoyed as much. I actually probably enjoyed the drama the most. Which I'm not really a huge movie buff...there is a lot of movies I just haven't seen. But I didn't know that I would like this type of drama as much as I did. I feel like it's really the most important aspect of the movie. I get that from the director too. He's really into a lot of drama movies. Mentioned Ingmar Bergman as an inspiration and said he screened a bunch of movies for the people who were going to work on the film, including Bergman's 'Cries and Whispers'. And then listed movies like 'Rosemary's Baby' or 'The Innocents' by Jack Clayton. And directors like Nicolas Roeg and his movie 'Don't Look Now'. I've actually not seen a lot of this, outside 'Rosemary's Baby'. Think I might end up watching some Bergman films.

Just watched Hereditary. It had some good suspenseful parts, and then it also had some unintentionally funny parts. The beheading scene and the headless body floating into the treehouse at the end of the movie made me laugh.

Yeah, I didn't particularly like 'Blair Witch'. Not really familiar with the "found footage" types.
The found footage makes it appear you are watching film that survived an ordeal, like a documentary where you have no idea what happened until the final few minutes. Blair Witch started that concept (I think). But like you, I wasn’t a fan either. Hellhouse LLC is probably the most suspenseful film I’ve watched since The Event Horizon. And it’s not very gory, just paced well.

Hereditary was a bit of a mind ****. It was really slow in parts but it picks up at the end.

If you like horror comedy I just saw You Might Be the Killer. It has a Cabin in the Woods feel though not nearly as perfect as that movie was.

I was just thinking about 'Cabin in the Woods' the other day. I haven't seen that since it was in theaters. Might watch it again sometime soon. I'll check that one you recommended too.

Ha just saw You Might Be The Killer, it wasn't bad. Also Detention falls in the well done horror comedy as well as Tucker & Dale vs Evil.

A bit of an older movie but The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a really good one. Also, a pretty cool "found footage" movie I'd recommend is The Bay.

That’s a great one. The actual case that it’s based upon is pretty freaky. There are actual audio tapes of her speaking in different languages during the possession.

Agreed. The ending was REALLY dumb! I liked the movie so much more when it was up in the air whether or not it was all in the mother's head or if there were actual supernatural forces at play. I would've rather the film leave it up in the air.

Just saw 'hereditary'. Didnt care for it. The movie changed about half way through from a character study of extreme grief to a rehash of 'the witch' with a gender swap on the witch. Started laughing at the point mom remembers grandmas collection of demon books when things start to get weird.
