Horsecollaring now illegal in NCAA games

I am glad that horse collaring is now illegal. I wish they would have addressed the OT penalty rules like this facemask in the KY game.

I agree. Even something as simple as carrying over the rule that a game can not end on a penalty to overtime, to where if the team without the ball is penalized, the team with possession has the option of running another play (with any penalty yards tacked on). That at least would have been an improvement. In the Kentucky game, we were close to field goal range I think (with a 15 yard penalty).

to pretend like the horse collar tackle is only as dangerous as a common tackle is ludicrous at best.

you miss my point. only pointing out that tackling is part of the game. need we scrutinize every form of tackle there is? not every ball carrier is a qb.

NCAA. Any facemask will result in a 15 yarder. However, the incidental will probably be called far less.

That's essentially what I was saying. The ref I heard describe said it clearly needs to be a grabbing and twisting of the head - the traditional 15 yarder. Incidental won't be called at all since it doesn't exist anymore.

no, you're still missing the entire point. No one, qb, rb, wr, te or even a lineman should be brought back down to the ground by way of a horse collar tackle.

I wish Fulmer would have pushed for consideration of something like this. I'd settle for allowing the 15-yard penalty to carry over into the next OT. Carrying over dead-ball penalties on the last play but not live-ball penalties is a senseless distinction, IMO.

I don't see how anyone could be against this rule. Horsecollar tackles are very dangerous and should have been made illegal years ago. It has nothing to do with pussifying the sport and everything to do with safety of these college players.
