NOT

Winning seasons at Tennessee: The Vols are now assured of their fourth straight losing season after falling 14-10 at home to Vanderbilt, the first time since the 1920s that Tennessee has lost two in a row to the Commodores. But you have to go all the way back to 1903-06 to find a stretch when Tennessee had suffered through four straight losing seasons. What’s left for the Vols this season is trying to avoid the first eight-loss season in school history when they travel to Kentucky this Saturday. The dubious “firsts” are piling up for a program that had been to five SEC championship games in 12 years before Phillip Fulmer was pushed out following the 2008 season.

SEC Hot and Not: Week 13 - ESPN

This is how far we've fallen. You can't blame CBJ and it's not gonna be fixed overnight. Give him time people

Actually you can blame him, he's the head coach - he owns this. BUT I agree, there are many factors that have to be corrected and he will need time to do so. Will he? I sure hope so. The recruiting class looks promising.

Hard to grasp it's been 4 straight seasons. Lane the drain and Fooley just killed this program. With a assist from the fool that hired both of them.

Just for the record: I can blame whomover or whatever I choose. We can argue about whether or not it is correct, but I can assess the blame.

Already have 33 on the way... I see 2 more coming... glad we agree!

I like to see how this happens

Signing 35 but with a limit of 25

I know Jones said they have it worked out and that there is a way. If there were a way, don't you suspect that other teams would be utilizing this way?

Seems like more BS like TBSIA

Absolutely! The man is being paid 3 million dollars a year, and is supposed to be the caretaker of Tennessee football!! Wins and losses fall on his shoulders.

6-6 would have been a good first year, anything less and he underachieved. All he had to do was find a way to win 3 games!!! He had 3 wins (cupcake teams) built-in for him.

I said before the season... Just beat Vandy, Kentucky and 1 other game, and get us to a damn bowl game!

Earn that big salary CBJ!

Vandy > Tennessee. I know its hard for UT fans to grasp, but it's the truth. They've proved it the last 2 years now.

Think about this: 6 of our past 9 seasons have been losing seasons.

05, 08, 10, 11, 12, 13.

We've been bad for almost a decade.

They can't grasp it. Hell we beat SC but they were still complaining after that. Last years team had twice the talent as this team and only won 5 games with a fool at the controls. That fool would be lucky to win 2 games with this team, because they would've quit in the SA game and would've lost to SC too.

It's spilled milk now but Butch and Co. definitely choked against Vandy. He deserves 5 full years to bring UT back to greatness but also owns this disappointment of a season as well.

I don't know that Vandy is better than UT. They're certainly better than the Vandy teams of old... and that's because of James Franklin. (I don't like him but its the truth)

Tennessee has been outcoached by Vandy the past three years. We caught a lucky break with the Eric Gordon interception in over time to pull a win out.

I think Mike Hamilton is a good man who tried his best.

But, holy hell, his leadership completely nuked this football program. He's not alone, but...wow.

That's really classy and intelligent of you... I disagree with you and your only response is to take a shot at my intelligence, and you don't even know me! :eek:lol:

Ignorance doesn't equal unintelligence

I would suspect that Georgia signing 33 last year would indicate it's not just a bunch of BS.

It will take outstanding recruiting AND coaching year in and year out to compete with the SEC juggernaut programs.

Assuming we achieve near parity (as in close but not surpassing) in recruiting with the upper echelon programs, do you think Jones and his staff have the coaching ability to translate that into SEC championship games within the next 5 or so years?

It's a combination of last year's class and this one. Last year, it looks like the Vols took 23 then you subtract the 3 EEs (if I counted them right which those count towards the year before so last years class was actually at 20 (again, taking 247sports numbers so this is more or less just and example). That frees up 5 to EE this year counting back to last year which added to the 25 for this year is 30 .. how they will be able to do 35, I am not sure but again, some of the above numbers could be off.

Him leaving like he did hurt bad. When he left hurt bad. Knew it would set us back much further. Then they hire a coach that had a losing record in the Wac.

He hurt the team not only by leaving in the middle of the night, but also when he showed up and gutted many of the players we had to make room for his players. The majority of whom did not finish with team. Need I mention the part about telling Boyd no thanks? I will forever hate Lane Kiffin.

Some of the falling has been on CBJ's watch. He's outdooleyed Dooley on setting historical records to the downside. Team 117 will be in the recordbooks forever as one of the worst UT teams ever to wear the orange. That's just fact.

No one can logically blame CBJ for the terrible team he inherited and the injuries which took away the best three quarterbacks on the team, and other key players. The class of 2014 looks very good and the freshmen who were red-shirted will form a very good base of players to begin building a respectable football program. The number of EE will also allow those players to gain more knowledge of what it takes to win at the SEC level. I am anxious to see the progress in the next two years.
