Who remembers UT being chided by the national media for not wanting Greg Schiano? Anyone remember "Tennessee turned down by Tony Elliot and others?" I am so happy to see the HC at UT is not on this list because before CJH our coaches were a staple on this list. Butch Jones is high on the list again. Jimbo Fisher, Billy Napier and Eli Drinkwitz headline the SEC hot seats. Take a look and be proud UT is not represented on the list. Thank you Donde Plowman, Danny White and CJH and Go Vols!

I hope Napier, Venables, and Drink show enough signs of life to stick around a few more years. I like the status quo at those programs.

Some of these are silly. Cristobal? Venables? No way, not yet anyways.

I see Oklahoma giving Venables 3 years to right the ship before moving on, especially with the move to the SEC. Becoming a defensive minded team after Lincoln Riley left is a big adjustment. As far as Tucker, Jimbo and Cristobal, massive contracts are going to save them for years to come, but it won't be if Jimbo doesn't turn it around that he'll be on that hot seat getting ready to be fired soon. A lot went on at Virginia last year off the field unfortunately so that would be the wrong move at this point. They need the stability.

Otherwise, not a bad list.

White allows his coaches to do their jobs and focuses on doing fund raising.

“Butch Jones has been successful at Central Michigan, Cincinnati and Tennessee but has not yet been able to get Arkansas State going.”

I must have missed the year that he was successful at Tennessee.
By "successful at Tennessee" maybe they mean successful in getting about $8.25M in buyout money. 🤷‍♂️

Wilcox and Venables just leap off the page. Two sure fire guys that were solid coordinators but could not translate that into success as HCs.

Being a great coordinator is not insurance a great HC results. We've seen this over and over again. The media forgets it too often IMO. It's two different jobs with different skill sets. It's why Greg Schiano is such a great HC to this very day.

No doubt Napier is recruiting well. Have you changed your dire prediction for the season?

Doubt those guys see a lot of playing time so early. 2024 should be a big improvement and, especially with the 12 team format I do believe that, barring mass exodus, we can contend for a spot in 2025.

Venables should get some time. Wilcox has been there for a while, but Cal has been struggling.

I wouldn't count Napier out just yet. The first year is usually a throw away year for everyone and he's got the No. 3 recruiting class at the moment. Tough schedule in year 2 though.

@lawgator1 said the same thing. I thought the consensus was that he was unlikely to make it after losing the team last year and some questionable game management. But, if he holds that class together, then maybe he has a second life. Hopefully, we don’t do him any favors this year.

You should never read too much into a first year in my experience, one way or another.
