Venables is not in the hot seat

Not yet...

But Sooner fans won't put up with those records for long. Especially if he gets abused at every level at Texas again like last season.

Fans out here expect double digits in the win column. He needs to get something going fast.

Grand how you been?

They expect it sure but who is gonna come running if they can him with no time to show he belongs?

Doing fantastic...

One thing I will give the OU AD Joe Castiglione is the fact he's very loyal (to a fault almost) of his coaches. He hangs on to them longer than he should sometimes.

However...

Money talks in that program and if the boosters start getting squirrelly, he might be forced to start looking. Not saying it'll happen this season, but if Venables posts another 6 or 7 win season, the grumblings will start.

They did a quick preview of the game and one of the hosts laughed and said “those backs just better pray Joes arm gets tired”
Wes Durham was talking about conference perception and our game comes up, he said UVA’s not winning so let’s not even bother. Haha. UVA fell off quick. They played Florida pretty tough in the orange bowl a few years ago.

The lifetime statistics of several OU coaches are nothing short of amazing. I guess it shows how hard it is to hire people when you just consider that they have Venables at all, but over all those good years they consistently hired assistants and many of those guys ended up with lifetime win percentages way above 80%

Their schedule is:
Arkansas State
SMU
Tulsa
Cincinnati
Iowa St
Texas
UCF
Kansas
OK St
West Virginia
BYU
TCU

Doesn't take much to get "something going fast" with that creampuff schedule.

Cincy... toss up
ISU... toss up
Texas... loss
UCF... toss up
Kansas... toss up
OKST... loss (even in Norman)
WVU... win
BYU... toss up
TCU... loss

We should revisit this in December.

I'll be surprised if they go 8-4 this year. I think Texas will win the CG much to the chagrin of the conference (and mine since I hate Texas).

But I think Venables has at least a 3-4 year rebuilding process in front of him. He didn't walk into a deep talent pool and will need time to get his system online.

I agree OK will not be as good as they have been , but the BIg12 is trash. They don't have to be very good to have a good record.

Man I love being in the SEC, but if we had that schedule I would go ahead and find a way to secure playoff tickets.

That has to hit a nerve.

Kansas had been doing better recently. Not great, but competitive in quite a few matches.

I think the best they can hope for is a Kentucky level of success in football while remaining a basketball school.

I hope Napier, Venables, and Drink show enough signs of life to stick around a few more years. I like the status quo at those programs.

I don’t want Napier to win much. I’d prefer Florida to have a tough decision to make this winter

Wilcox and Venables just leap off the page. Two sure fire guys that were solid coordinators but could not translate that into success as HCs.

Being a great coordinator is not insurance a great HC results. We've seen this over and over again. The media forgets it too often IMO. It's two different jobs with different skill sets. It's why Greg Schiano is such a great HC to this very day.

I doubt Saban could win at Cal. It’s a pile of crap there.

I can't believe Butch is not doing well and I can't see Rutgers firing Schiano. He is the greatest coach ever! Just ask Forde.

Maybe the reason alot of us Vols fans didn't want Schiano was because he's just not that good.

He Gone..... NOT HC material. And is PSU legacy will follow him forever. VOLNATION is to be commended as often as possible for standing up!

Drinkwitz is slamming the latest conference realignment.
Shouldn't he win some games before he blows us away with his Hot Takes?
