House Dems tell Pelosi "Not so fast..."

I wonder how the far-left base will handle all of the center positioning of the democratic party?

I think it may turn into a case of "Be careful what you wish for." The Dems were successful in recruiting a lot of conservative Democrats. I'm not sure they are going to be able to get them to Washington and then convince them, "OK - now vote left with the rest of us."

The funny thing is that Murtha has actually been pretty conservative except for his extreme left position on Iraq.

I think this could be as much about his ethics issues as his politics.

This is not meant to be a left vs. right thread. I am genuinely wondering how this dynamic is going to play out with the leadership being more liberal than the membership.

The membership will pull the leadership to them, not vice versa.

They have to if they want votes on anything. Keep in mind that the leadership can push anything. But unless they have the committee votes to get items to the floor, it doesn't matter how liberal the leadership is.

Look at the vote between Murtha and Hoyer. I hardly believe there are that many moderate to conservative Dems. I do agree this was more about his questionable past than his politics.

Pelosi is also pushing Alcee Hastings over Jane Harman to chair the House Intelligence Committee. At the rate she's going, she'll have burned all of her bridges by next January.

So I'm throwing in a probably ignorant question.
Why elect leadership now, when a great many of those new Dems are not even in office yet?...

cronyism. pelosi isn't going to take a chance appointing a freshman to chair any committee. it's going to be diehard establishment democrats from her inner circle.

No not cronyism. It is standard for the leadership to be appointed prior to that elected Congress sitting. It means that they walk in day 1 already settled in their seats.

MG is forgetting the GOP is using the same methods.

so you don't think Pelosi backing Murtha and Alcee Hastings isn't cronyism?

your point about leadership being in place is well taken, but don't think for one minute Pelosi isn't trying to surround herself with a bunch of sycophants. a ploy which isn't working, fortunately.

I see you failed to acknowledge how the GOP is doing the same thing. Both parties do this and it is nothing out of the ordinary. And until it is done, all this is is speculation.

again, I'm off my medication. sorry...sue me.

politicians are predictable animals. cronyism exists on both sides.

I guess that is how you get a head of a horse association in charge of FEMA and an impeachment lawyer in charge of the Department of Homeland Security.

I'll run for Congress if you will. If anything, our constant sniping at each other will prevent any more damage to the republic.
