House money

Earlier this week on talk radio, the talking heads were saying that Heupel and staff are very relaxed in the complex. I think you don't need to worry about this with Heupel. He is always relaxed on the sidelines and his teams reflect that.

This is a nice change of pace. Johhny Majors was notoriously tight during bammer week. Phil was relaxed in his early days, but you could see tension leaking out of him later in his career. Butch would get red as a beat, leading to jokes about his head actually exploding. Pruitt would have temper tantrums and yell at staff and players.

It's about time we had a chill coach that can handle the pressure.
Wish I could like it more

When I lived in Nevada, there was an old saying about house money. (Paraphrased) Once it's in your possession, it's no longer the houses money, it's yours. Making foolish decisions because you think it's "house money" will come back and bite you.

We have gotten this far by playing fast and loose. No fear. No need to change that now. We're gonna be on the receiving end of some big punches Saturday no matter what. The game is going to be decided by how well we punch back.

I know at first this idea sounds ridiculous but does anyone think that Saban would factor in the fact this game is not important to win the West and win in Atlanta in his decision to play Bryce?

Both teams control their own destiny regardless of the outcome of this game. So in that sense there's not a ton of season affecting pressure either way. It does make the margin for error slimmer for either team. It would still be incredible to finally break this demonic streak. I never thought I'd live to see worse than 1971-1981 but here we are.

The pressure is on us to prove we belong. Saban is a master at blocking the outside narrative from his team, so I seriously doubt those kids are fearing the 'end of a dynasty'.

Listen, the reality is that we are playing with house money given where we were a year and a half ago, but if you don't think our kids are feeling the pressure of the expectations of this fan base, I don't know what to say. But I really hope they are playing fast and loose right out of the gate.
I really don't think our team looks at it the same way fans do. We tend to build things up to bigger level than they are. This team is very mature and has been locked in on their preparation and it has shown to this point. Doesn't guarantee a win but I don't think they're feeling as much pressure as you would think.

I don't disagree. The fans and media will always tend to blow everything out of proportion while coaches will keep a 'bubble' of sorts over their teams all week to block out the noise, and Heupel is proving to be a master at having his team ready to play fast and loose.

This is the point I've seen on some of their boards. They don't think it matters if they lost this game since it doesn't affect them winning the West. The long term benefit of having Young healthy is more important. Well, to some. To others, they're all-consuming hatred for us is most important so a win would be better. Still, I think Saban considers every game important and if Bryce is cleared, he would play.

I predict Satan will mask loading the box and try to stuff the run game gambling for some early 3 and outs. Hopefully the Vol Air Force will be flying early and grab the lead. Throw deep early, pump the crowd and make them play catch up on the road. 42-38 Vols in overtime.

Absolutely play loose and to win. No slow down, pedal to the metal. Rock Bama's world and never quit. All we can ask of our awesome Vols this year. And thank you to everyone who has contributed to this team and victories.

CJH has absolutely earned this weekend to be about the fun he has created around this program. No need to play scared, no need to worry about negative responses. Just tell your men to go have fun, tell Hooker to drop it like only he can, Bru to destroy the traitor, Hyatt to catch everything and the defense to feast, especially our BY and big Omari.
No need to prove anything, Coach. This game, you are playing with house money, take every shot you can. Put that miserlegion of crimson to bed early.
I hate all things crimson
If Bryce plays I am a big fan of blitzing early and blitzing often. Make him work that shoulder and punish him when he does. DB's are gonna fail us regardless so might as well get hits in on the qb.

I agree. Just wondering if Saban is hesitant if he puts that into consideration or if he ignores all that.
