Someone on another thread posted an article on here about how Florida is not dominating as much as it is disciplined. I've been a Gator fan for over 20 years and I cannot recall seeing a Florida team be this alert, aware, and focused.

We may yet lose to Auburn. Who knows, we may lose 2 or 3 after that. But if we do I don't see signs that it will be because of mental breakdowns or errors in execution. So how about some folks acknowledge on here that Meyer is a pretty damn good coach after all and that the Gators made a wise choice in bringing him in?

Nah. He still sucks as a disciplinarian. It may not happen this year, but it WILL catch up to him.

He's the same place Les Miles is at right now. Playing pretty good with the talent that was already there, and that a toad could bring in to a place like LSU or Florida, but has a long way to prove he can win SEC Championships and compete for National Titles.

He is however on the right track, and doing better than Miles at it. So I will give him that. He's still no better than 5th in the conference though overall as a head coach, in my humble opinion.

Yeah...I will acknowledge that, and the refs in the Florida-LSU game are what every official strives to be...

Florida beats LSU by 13, and are granted a 14 point swing by the officiating crew.

Leak manages to get more hit to the helmet calls than any QB in the NCAA. They all come at very critical points to. Take the poor officiating out of that game and Florida probably does not break 10.

So, yeah, way to go Urban Meyer...

He is a great coach. He has adapted the offense and defense to suit the players. He has made them mentally tough, cut back on errors, and made the players feel accountable and in control. On top of that wins vs the UT and LSU is a great feather in the cap. The #2 spot is well deserved.

He can call the ever-loving heck out of a QB sneak to Tim Tebow!

Was the Tebow/Kareem skyhook TD pass part of the spread offense?

I'll give him credit for recruiting Tebow, but if he keeps hitting the bong with his players, there's gonna be trouble.

I agree with lawgator and disagree with orangesquare.

I think meyer is the antithesis of les miles in that he utilizes his talent with a disciplined approach. Miles has wasted a very talented LSU team this year as a result of a disorganized offense.

I've got an uncomfortable feeling that florida will be tough to beat once some of meyer's new recruits begin to come of age in the next couple years.

The question of organization cannot be ignored. Look at the difference between UT's offense this year and last year. Same players, different result.

So, in short, I think that urban meyer is a good damn coach. I hope he goes pro and florida brings back ron zook.

go vols.

As I stated after the UT game, I am not that impressed with Leak running the UF offense. I still feel this way. The put up 21 on a very average UT defense. They put up 21 on LSU and were given as many breaks as an offense could want.

There were a lot of calls that went against Florida in that game that were pretty weak, too. And if LSU does not muff a kick off and fumble into the end zone for a safety. And hey, what's Florida doing undefeated anyway as they got lucky to beat Tennessee and we all know that roughing the passer call was bad in that game, too, right?

And what if Tebow had been bitten by a spider in the hotel the night before the game at UT?

I've been very impressed by Florida; especially on defense. But I'll be shocked if eventually Tebow doesn't do something stupid on the field. He has been incredible so far, and Meyer has done a great job of protecting him but he's still a true freshman QB.

Thanks!! Don't know if we will hang onto it, but Meyer is the main reason we are headed in the direction we see now.

LOL. I was at the game and wow, what a call. The one where Tebow ran to the line, pulled up and passed in the second half was a thing of beauty. Had to be there to see just how well designed and executed that one was.

That's all I wanted to hear. Meyer is coaching this team to meet its potential. With solid recruiting, we ought to be at the top for awhile.

P.S. Watching Meyer's demeanor, he is a true tactician and loves the game. I think he'll go to the NFL within the next 4 years.

Last time I checked, a safety was only worth 2 points. That was poor by LSU, however, it would have been very negligible had LSU gotten the correct call on their TD in the first half and had Florida's drive not been kept alive by a phantom call on Leak.

I understand that great teams overcome poor officiating, however, that does not mean that a team that benefits from poor officiating is great. I would also temper your praise for Meyer until after the Auburn game, as Auburn will be playing inspired football this weekend.

Finally, I will never give Urban Meyer any credit, especially not in terms of the 'discipline' you speak of. Have you been living in a hole? We are outraged over a toy gun in Knoxville and the player misses 4 games. In Gator land you have players firing actual firearms in residential areas and testing positive for weed twice in one season, yet these players are always on the field for the 'important' games.

I also recall, during our game against UF, one of Florida's linemen getting a personal foul call for kidney punching one of our players about 4 times.

After the unethical handling of the substance abuse issue, I have no respect for him at all. He could win 100 NCs for all I care, if that is how he is going to go about it.

I agree totally with this statement. I think Meyer is a great coach, but the way he handled that situation was terrible.

On a brighter note - I can't find anything I don't like about Tebow. It's easy to dislike Leak, but I find myself liking Tebow more and more. Tough, talented, enthusiastic - crap, I can't like a Gator player... :eek:hmy:

I think it is way to early in Tebow's career to be able to judge him as great or poor. He only runs two plays: option or QB draw. When either is called, the blocking scheme keeps the linemen from getting downfield, leaving the option of throwing the ball alive and well. I would figure that the advice Tebow is getting from Meyer is this: "If it is completely wide open, throw it. If it is only 'open,' tuck the ball and run."

I am sure that Mike Alstott could probably be given the same instructions under center and get the same results as a backup/gimmick quarterback.

I'll give Meyer some credit, he's certainly good at juggling player suspensions according to the big games and the little ones.

This Florida team is not disciplined.

Penalties in each game:

v. LSU - 14
v. Alabama - 9
v. Kentucky - 10
@ Tennessee - 9
v. UCF - 10
v. S. Miss - 7

That Florida team is anything but discliplined. LG, I would say Florida has more penalties than any other SEC team through 6 games. How alert, aware, and focused is that?

For all the discipline you speak of LG, the Gators are the worst team in the SEC when it comes to penalties. Take the weed problems, handgun problems off the field and put them with the penalties on the field and I do not see much discipline there...

Come on, you have to give Tebow some credit. I didn't say he was great, but he has certainly proven himself as a tough option QB and he had two TD passes against LSU. I doubt Alstott could even get off the ground, much less throw a jump pass. :)

He still has some big games to play as do the Vols.He is a good coach, but he came in having a proven qb to run the team.I think when Tebows day comes, his passes won't be as unpredictable, and it will be impossible for him to run as much as he does now because eventually he'll get a serious injury.I told my brother in law form Michigan yesterday, I can see Michigan and Florida playing for the National Championship, provided they both go undefeated. He did start that it's not really fair if OSU #1 plays #2 Michigan and one gets knocked out it's not fair, but he did mention SEC playoff games knocks out SEC contenders, he'd better! One more thing LG, be glad you played us when you did because I think we could take you guys now,in my humble opinion.

I refuse to give Tebow any credit until he is no longer a gimmick.

I may be wrong (and I hope I am for our sake), but I bet you'll be giving him credit next year... He does hold all sort of high school passing records for the state of FL.
