How About A Little Respect Now For Meyer?

I may be wrong (and I hope I am for our sake), but I bet you'll be giving him credit next year... He does hold all sort of high school passing records for the state of FL.
And Chris Leak held all sorts of passing records for the state of North Carolina...and, he has been an average SEC QB.

Finally, I will never give Urban Meyer any credit, especially not in terms of the 'discipline' you speak of. Have you been living in a hole? We are outraged over a toy gun in Knoxville and the player misses 4 games. In Gator land you have players firing actual firearms in residential areas and testing positive for weed twice in one season, yet these players are always on the field for the 'important' games.

I also recall, during our game against UF, one of Florida's linemen getting a personal foul call for kidney punching one of our players about 4 times.

I also did not like the players staying on who were involved in the gun fracas. That bothered me a lot.

As to Marcus Thomas (the lineman who tested positive for marijuana), I have been trying to find out what happened. The university (not the coaches) approved his appeal. As I understood it, the appeal was based on the argument that the use of marijuana was a one time incident and that both results were related to that one incident. There was some further testing done to determine if this claim had merit. I've not heard what the result was.

His mother has stated that the first test came in mid July and the second was late August. To a casual observer, that sure looks like more than 30 days difference, and that would be assuming that he smoked up the night before the first test. Also, since the second test was at the end of August, why did it take greater than a week to get the results back. It might be the Universities policies, but it is Meyer's program. He should know that everything is going to reflect upon him and that he has the power to continue to suspend a player for as long as he likes.

Have any of you guys heard about the e-mails that Urban Meyer has been sending Tim Tebow? In one he supposedly asks Tim if he needs any help taking his pads off after practice.

Well of course he can suspend a player if he wants to, but the original suspension comes at the hands of the university, not the athletic department. If the university found merit in Thomas' argument, I have no problem with Meyer deferring on that. I do not know what the exact sequence of events has been and I am tired of folks blasting Meyer for this when they don't know, either.

I am on board with you guys as far as the gun thing goes. Don't like that at all. But let's get the facts straight on Thomas before criticizing that one.

Ok then, I criticize the University of Florida, from the top down, for dropping the ball on the Thomas situation.

So, are you going to discuss my post with facts about Florida's lack of focus and discipline on the field?

Meyer is ok, but could you imagine what Cut would do with all that talent?:)

I have no problem in saying that right now Florida is the best team in the SEC. They're Defense is full of playmakers, and they may be one of the fastest Defenses in the country. the offense is good enough, with a couple of playmakers on the outside.

Leak is serviceable, and i can't say more about him because TEbow gets all the glory points. And as impressed as i am with Tebow (impressed is a fancy word for hate btw) i agree with Therealut...he's been nothing more than a very effective gimmick.

but as to coaching...it's hard to say that Meyer is outcoaching folks when you lead the league in penalties and have yet to kick a feild goal, o/t a PAT. Coaching also doesn't have a whole lot to do with LSU committing so many unforced errors. 5 turnovers...that's huge. that's a lot of short feilds and easy points for Florida.

Having said all of that, What Florida is doing, works for them right now. they are not unbeatable, they have weaknesses...though they are a tough bunch. 3 times they have had to come from behind in SEC games at some point or another to win. two in the 4th qtr. that's a sign of a good team.

Florida looked good in the LSU game and the D played great. But i would still tend to lean toward LSU really playing terrible really helping UF's cause.

Good win for Florida...but 4 games remain that could sneak up on you..you're catching Auburn at the wrong time....and you may be catching UGA at the wrong time...USC and FSU could provide some challenges, but the only way you lose to those two is if you really play badly in those two games.

it's a two game season for UF as far as i'm concerned...UGA and Auburn.

Oh, sorry, forgot about that.

Yes, my response is that the Gators have been the victim of sloppy officiating.

J/K. During the LSU game, I was going nuts at the Florida O-line constantly getting called for false starts. I'm not sure what was causing that (UF's inexperience on the line, something LSU was doing, etc.), but it happened a lot.

I think Urban is an above average coach, maybe great one day, but now, for right now IMO he's above average. As stated above he does benefit from the recruiting of Spurrier, and with inetrim success along with the downturns of both FSU and Miami he stands to reload with the best athletes Florida has to offer. The next 5 seasons he should win at least 1 national title. If not the blame can be placed directly in his lap. He has every adavantage every coach dreams of.....grandfathered talent in a new job, the reginal recruiting rivals in a downturn, and in the meantime he's enjoyed winning seasons and hes been easily accepted by the fanbase and alumni/boosters. Right now life is good for UM. By the way I think they run the table this year and play Ohio State.:detective:

LG, what is it you want us to say. The Gator's defense is probably the best in the country, but Florida's inability to run the ball will eventually catch up with them.

Also, regardless of what really happened the Thomas incident is a black eye for the program right or wrong. He clearly makes that defense much better, and at the level they are playing that speaks volumes.

It may not be fair, but Meyer is going to have to work a lot harder for respect anywhere, much less on this board. Winning the SEC championship game would certainly be a start. Until then, lets just let the season play out.

And leading the league in penalties and not being able to kick FG's will too...

The song "Looking For Love In All the Wrong Places" comes to my mind when I read this thread, go look for Meyer's love on a gator board.
