How About Wojo?

That's so short-sighted, IMO.

We have no money, so who that is proven would fit the bill?

We're a top five attendance school (at least we were) with a $100 million budget. We've got enough money to have a basketball coach who has been to the NCAA tournament.

Shopping at the coaching blue light special helped get us where we are today.

I'd say that criteria effectively eliminates 99% of the potential candidates. Bruce or bust. This should be interesting.

I'm not in the interview process, but I'm sure he's not the only one who gets what Tennessee can be.

But he is the only one who is a guarantee

Coach K is 67. Wojo is coach in waiting and a Duke legend.

If he left to go anywhere, as soon as Coach k retired, he would be called for the Duke job

I want a coach who believes Tennessee is a career job, not a career builder.

Wait he is a duke legend? Hardly he pretty much sucked and was only known bc he would slap the court like a jack a##. He was a mediocre player at best.

So...name some viable options.

Don't get me wrong, CBP was a great coach for us. I'd love to start the season only wondering what our tourney seed would be. Just seems highly unlikely.

Roy Williams would disagree. So would Pastner.

Somewhere between those two would be just fine with me.

You actually brought up Pastners name in this conversation? I put him up there with Travis Ford being the most underachieving coach in college basketball....

Pearl is a pipe dream. As EMain pointed out in another thread, that Show Cause doesn't expire until late August. Just doesn't add up.

So, you want a proven coach we can afford and that the fan base would be happy with. Name them.

He can be hired before then you just have to show cause why you did hire him. However I agree we probably would not do that.

Been a Coach K assistant for years. Chris Collins is turning things around at Northwestern. If we're going to wind up taking a flyer on a coach, might as well get one from a productive coaching tree. I'd be happier with that than some Stan Heath/Cuonzo Martin mid-major flash in the pan.

Thoughts?

OK remember what happen when we hired Kiffin. I think He would pull a Kiffin as soon as coach K retires. I think Duke would be his dream job. No thanks. Been there done that.

If you're going to hire from the Duke coaching tree why not go after Bobby Hurley at Buffalo?

SUNY Buffalo is currently 16-8

One selling point, Tennessee has no state income tax.
Second selling point, this year was an exception, it normally doesn't snow in Knoxville.

If Coach K is 67 years old, why doesn't he have any gray hair?

HOw about Dooley?

Been a Saban assistant for years.

Took La Tech to bowl game.

Comes from a blood line of S.E.C. coach.

Understands the S.E.C.

Was Saban's lead recruiter at LSU, so he can recruit.

If you're looking at a young coach, I would look at Jerod Haase, UAB's coach. Long time Roy Williams asst coach up until 2 years ago. Great player at Kansas. Has improved from his first year when UAB went 16-17. This year, UAB is currently 17-10 with a signature win at home over UNC. Granted, Carolina is totally different team now.

If he can be lured I'd say yes. But there are those who believe he is in wait.

Would love Wojo but I don't think he'd come. I would throw some figures at him to try to change his mind, but I think he's being groomed to take over Duke. I'd go after Marshall like nobodies business. I'd do what it took to land him. My gosh, pull up ESPN NCAAM standings and look at all the conferences with good teams, good asst coaches. There's so many out there better than Cuonzo OR Pearl it's not even funny. I really think this sorry admin has no clue when it comes to ANY coaching search. Remember, Hart was ready to hire Strong. I do not think the '14 class would've looked as good if we'd have hired Strong.
