not being negative just interested in people's opinions.

How bad would the score have to be or what would be the situation that would cause you as coach to yank Ainge and replace him with Crompton during the Cal game??

The thing is, if you make the switch, you make it for good and for the rest of the season.

No matter what.

His confidence would be shot after, say, 3 INTs anyway, but I'd leave him in there and make him tough it out.

I agree with that. Ainge has proven he is a head case, if you're going to make the switch, better be prepared to stick with it. He cannot handle rejection, one switch and he is done for.

That is why the decision is so difficult. Once Ainge is pulled, Crompton could follow up with 3 passes, 3 INTs and you have to stick with him.

i'm willing to say that if ainge proves that he can't handle the pressure, crompton will be in by the florida game

It would take a solid loss from Cal and and struggle with Air Force for me to yank Ainge

If Ainge is playing well and we lose to Cal, I can live with that. If Ainge is clearly struggling, you have to give the team a chance to win.

Damn, this is getting weird, I am total agreement with you again. Yea, the coaches are in a tough position. That can't take another season like the last one and keep their jobs. But if they make the switch, I am sure they know they cannot go back to Ainge.

Throwing an interception underhanded while being sacked in his own endzone

Having a freshman QB is not that bad. Why are some so terrified of that? There has been many a good freshman QB's in this leage that have been great. Ainge ( as a freshman), Manning, and god forbid even Clauson was. Why I have high expectations for Crompton I don't know.:dunno:

Cutcliffe said last night when asked if they were planning on playing Crompton that they were infact going to play him. He said that he didn't have a set plan of when they were going to do it, and that they may throw the whole second team in "just to see how bad they want to play".

I don't think when he comes in, that Ainge will be done, unless they let Ainge do something bad like multiple INT's, fumbles, etc, however I think that certainly by the Memphis game that Crompton will be the starter, if not sooner.

Was Cut talking about putting in the second team for this game or just in general some time this season. I can agree with that if we are winning big or losing bad but not just for getting experience in a competitive game. I don't see Crompton being the starter. We have no evidence that Ainge is going to be aweful this year. It is all speculation. We have no evidence that Crompton is going to be the man. How many downs in a official game has he played in NCAA?-NONE. If Ainge is not moving the offense and it is clearly due to his lack of ability to play QB then you go to #2. That is about it. Ainge is the starter. We might want to get used to this idea and wait and see what he can do this year with a proven QB coach. After we see that, we can make a better decision on what to do. Until then, I see no QB contreversy here.:twocents:

It will work itself out.Ainge is either ready for the challenge, to be a field general and a solid leader, or he'll fall back into his 2005 field mannerisms.I think too much emphasis is being placed on when Crompton might appear since it's not like he's going to be starter from her on out.Just my observation.

Ainge will start the next two years................people need to calm down and quit falling in love with the backup quarterback.

The only thing Ainge has going against him is that he looks like Xena Princess Warrior.

He said in this game tomorrow night.

No evidence? Did you sleep in a cave last season?

Crompton is a better QB than Ainge, hands down. Ainge was recruited by hardly anyone, he was a top 20 Prospect while Crompton was a top 2-3 prospect.

The simply fact that they are talking about playing Crompton should alert you that the coaches who know more than both of us, aren't sold on Ainge as the starter.

You're right about one thing. There is no controversy. I've seen this staff (Fulmer, Cutcliffe) do this multiple times however. They will start the guy with more expierence, and a few games into the season, after slipping the higher rated, more capable guy out there, they will announce the change and not look back.

Go ahead and write it down. If Ainge doesn't play like the second coming of Peyton Manning, he won't be starting all season.
