How bad is a defense that gives up over 700 yds?

Interesting question. Yesterday our former HC and former DC gave up 730 yds. Over 480 in the first half. One OU player got 381 yds on the ground. I know, I know it was Oregon, but USC also got over 600 yds 480 passing and almost 200 rushing.
If it ends up Bama and OU, will be a classic battle of totally different styles.

Just wait until the Ducks meet the Vol-N-Stein defense next September....

They will put 80 points on us!

They will be gassed by the start of the 2nd quarter from running the length of the field untouched over and over and over again.

It is interesting just compare the Bama/LSU game to the USC/OU game. Seems that neither the USC or OU fans are in total melt down about their porius defenses because that is the style of their conference.

They don't play their assignments and are often confused. But, they make up for it by not tackling.

Yeah, if only we were in the Pac-12. Seeing that at least some of our players were recruited by Kiffin, and he was trying to turn us into SoCal East, that might explain some of it. :)

Well, UT has been a proud football school since 1891, and it hasn't been done before. So it's historically putrid. It's even more concerning that we're not doing anything about it. We're enabling.

Giving up over 700+ yards even in a win is equivalent to another team losing at home 40-0. Both are fireable offenses.

I defended the D all year, but yesterday re-inforced some issues that should atleast be improved by now. We play to the level of our competition defensively in the patty-cake games. We seemingly had not game planned at all for Troy. Daniel Gray was the only db that appeared interested in playing fast and hitting someone, however he let himself become undisciplined and turned that into a liability. Our db's all year, sans NC State, have been tentative, undisciplined, slow, and not at all physical. Our front 7 have been fairly solid, but yesterday was inexcusable. Unless they were using Troy to gameplan Missouri and they have magically figured out everything that doesn't work, Sal had better help them find some inspiration going forward.

Our special teams, offensive line, running backs, defensive line, linebackers have all improved from last year, some substantially. There is no excuse for the product our DB's are putting out there, we are having to compromise our whole scheme for their poor execution and general lack of effort and it's killed us all season, culminating in yesterday's disaster. DB's were our biggest liability under Wilcox and I know the older guys were not the most talented recruits and they were either recruited or brought in from JUCO to serve as warm bodies. However, if they haven't commited themselves to improvement over past 2-3 years, young guys need to use that as inspiration to step their game up.

Also, in SEC games going forward, we need more consistent QB play. We can't have the number of 3 & outs we've been averaging as that has killed our D. Even if we have to punt, get 2-3 first downs, get the d some rest, and use some clock in the process. Can't win in the SEC with 50% completions.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Oregon may beat that 720 yd mark next year. No-way UT can even keep up with their pace for the first half let alone the whole game
