How can you tell if tickets are legitimate?

I have always bought from individuals, but now with the E-tickets I am scared to buy any unless I know them. Facebook seems to be crawling with scams. Up until now I was never afraid to buy from scalpers also. Any advice or info would be appreciated.

UTSports.com encourages to buy from Ticketmaster only. They do not guarantee any other third party (SeatGeek, StubHub, etc.)

I got tickets for the Virginia game off of Ticketmaster. Normally I get tickets from a season ticket holder I know, but there has been cases over last several years where I have used Seatgeek, and Vivid Seats, for Baseball, Men’s Basketball, and Football and haven’t had any issues.

UT may not guarantee tickets purchased through a 3rd party, but SeatGeek, Vivid, and Stubhub all have their own guarantees if ticket does not work for whatever reason. Also look between all the sites as the tickets will have different processing fees. Stub hub processing fees are crazy. The other are not much better, but I have found they are cheaper on the fees.

When UT went to E-Tickets it made it a lot harder on the scalpers. You can still get tickets from scalpers, but I would make them transfer ticket from their phone to my phone before I handed over any money and do it in person if you don’t know them. Also there are still actual hard tickets still floating around, but not very many. Season ticket holders had options to be charged like $50 extra to have actual hard tickets also. But whatever you do, do not buy a ticket that’s a print out on a paper. Paper tickets will not scan from what have been told. I know the E-Tickets have a moving barcode, so a screen shot of the E-Ticket will not work either.

The amazing part is that you found an actual live person Walmart cashier. They seem to be endangered whenever I go in there.
I would try haggling with the computer, but everyone already thinks I'm a little crazy. I don't need to give them another reason.

Sold mine to a guy no problem. We used venmo. We had a process of verification. We exchanged venmos. He sent me a small amount unknownst to me, like 8 cents. I sent it back and texted how much he had sent me. Then he put like 50 down for initial ticket. I sent him him one ticket. I sent pictutes verifying the tickets prior to money sent. Then he sends all the money and I sent him back all the tickets. We took our time to make sure each one was real.

We did all that to make sure we felt safe. I would watch I had a scammer on Volnation. He wouldn't sell me his parking pass. Just told me to venmo him money. But he refused to verify anything. Then he ghosted me.

Even when you buy fronm stubhub, vivid, seatgeek, etc, the tickets still come from Ticketmaster because that’s where the sale was originally hosted and that’s where the seller will have to transfer them from.

All those websites have buyer protection policies that protect you from fraud.

They are just third party selling sites.

If I am buying something from Facebook marketplace, then I would prefer to meet them in person.

TM or someone you know well. Only safe options IMO.

PayPal better than venmo

Somebody tode me if ye scraitch 'em, ye get a faint whiff a orange. At's the only way fer ta be sure.

Seriously though, I'd only buy from Ticketmaster, someone you trust, or the Athletics office. As others have said, Paypal is probably your best bet in terms of person-to-person payment, unless you know/trust them.

I miss haggling with the guys on the street on gameday

Many many years ago i took a girl i was dating to a game. She had zero interest in football but later marveled at the cultural experience of the day. Especially the ticket buying process.

The band and very loud, drunken, and exuberant fans were also favorite parts of her day. But buying the tickets from scalpers was what she talked about most.

Even though I have season tickets now...i do miss those days.
