How Come no incoming action in Portal?

Some of our fans seem to think the portal is a magic store where there's an upgrade available at every position.

The reality is players are in the portal for a reason. Sometimes it's as simple seeking a better system fit or buried on a depth chart, but other times there's issues w/either ability or behaviorally, or a kid is just looking to get paid. CJH has been clear that a solid locker room are important to him, so don't want to bring in just anybody.

We have multiple guys coming to or already on campus within the next few days.

I'm not sure. How many roster spots are available after you include the '23 signing class?

The most severe need after the portal and Hyatt leaving is the slot receiver position. As far as I know, UT now has one on the roster.

Until we get rid of Willie Martinez, our secondary won't get any better.

DL Davin Sears(Texas St.) is also visiting now or this weekend. He tweeted he was here. He's #9 on top 10 transfers according to 24/7. Oklahoma and Penn St. are his other 2.
WR -Dont'e Thornton (Oregon) is also coming in this weekend #5 in top 10.

We’ve got enough talent coming back that we really don’t need anyone besides more DBs. We are in on Oregon’s WR, and we already signed a TE and a pretty elite LB. If Jalen Wright goes then I’m sure we would go after one, but right now we don’t really need another one (though we could still bring one in). We are stacked at edge. A DT maybe?

Maybe another OL with multiple years would be nice since we don’t really have anyone that is on the level of Darnell Wright, though we’ve got a good group coming back with Mincey, Crawford, and Mays.

Waiting on better players and fit. You don't take someone just for the sake of taking a body. Need, talent, fit. Patience is a virtue.

There is still a 85 limit and not every player in the portal is a impact player. People forget there are all kinds of players in the portal, some assume all portal players are can’t miss impact players. It’s far from that, it is melting pot of all types of players. And you have a roster of players already where many are improving and learning the system. You have to be wise managing the portal. It’s not a guaranteed gold mine. It can help you but this is where having a staff that is very good at evaluating character and talent comes into play. GBO!!!

We actually don't have the openings most think. Young is the only major contributor at DE that we're losing. Guess u could count Bumphus but we signed guys last year that should fill his role. We're returning 9 of our top 11 DL and we already signed Bradley, Hobbs, Weathersby, & Herring. Each one of these guys are at least 4⭐ talents. In the secondary we're losing Flowers but everyone else is back. I think a lot of people are forgetting how much eligibility is left back there. We also signed 5 DB's. The 2023 team is basically complete already. We return 20 of the 22 starters from the Orange Bowl, about 90% of the role players, and a top 10 recruiting class.
