How Come Riyahd Jones Never Plays?

His 1st problem is he was recruited by fooley. He did look the part thou! Maybe he can get healthy. There was a time when an article come out that said he may never be physically able to play again. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I was sure I read that last year sometime.

He wasn't recruited by Dooley at all actually....that last part is wrong too...Jones had a blood clot in his leg last year and didn't play due to that...all indications are that he's healthy however since Butch brought in all those DBs wouldn't be surprised if he fell behind the newbys on the depth chart.

OP asked a legit question and what follows is garbage post after garbage post of jokes.

Does anyone know the actual reason?

He isn't even mentioned in practices it seems.

You have to set the tone for nuanced, novel responses with a viable thread concerning a thought-provoking topic or news. There are innumerable appropriate threads to pose a question like this.

He's good to go now I believe: however, when CBJ didn't medical redshirt him last year, especially with the depth issues we have at DB and the fact a walkon started at nickel CB for us last year, that told me all I needed to know.

I'm really intrigued by his lack of presence on the depth chart, as well. Last year I remember there was a lot of buzz around him being almost a sure-fire lock for starting. Then got injured and we didn't get to see what all the hype was about.

Either he hasn't fully recovered, or the guys we have back there now are truly head and shoulders better than what we had to work with last year. Either way, CBJ knows what he's doing.

I enjoy the garbage posts when such an obvious question is posed. Mainly because, if Jones was good enough then he would be playing. Obviously, he isn't playing well enough to win a top two spot.

I may be wrong, but I remember he was having trouble following the coaches instructions...kinda head strong, knew everything there was to be known about lock down corner play.

Has physical tools.
Had the clotting issue diagnosed in Fall camp last year which threatened more than just playing time.

Was a 4 star recruit and most thought he'd step in and play right away. I think he is in the two deep?
They will need him. You've got to gave some decent depth at corner. Last year they burned his RS. My guess is they felt better about who they were recruiting at the time.

He lacks SEC speed, physicality and being able to listen. Plus a few injuries. He has good talent, but not sure he will make it at this level, hope he proves me wrong!

I mean he was a junior college corner back so you gotta think he was recruited to Tennessee for something. I figured by now he would have been playing/starting considering it's his senior season. At the end of the day I just want the best players out there possible but I just thought this was a good question to discuss. Go Vols!!!

He's on Homeland Security's "NO FLY LIST" lol

Simply recruited over. Staff didn't pursue a medical red shirt tells me they want his scholarship for another recruit rather than have him back. Hopefully he earns his degree and makes the most of his experience at UT.

Jones brought him in because we were in dire need of DBs. He got some blood clots in his legs and was out for the season while they figured out what the next step was. Doctors were able to control the clots and now he seems to be healthy. I agree with the other poster who said that since then, we have brought in several higher quality DBs, so he is probably just playing catch up and its that much harder because now he is behind a lot of talent.

Depth is a good thing!

He's been practicing. He was mentioned a couple of times during Camp as going against Malone on a regular basis. No clue why he hasn't cracked the 2 Deep.

"Five-star freshman Josh Malone beat Riyahd Jones for a score."

"Alton “Pig” Howard makes a catch as Riyahd Jones defends during the Volunteers’ scrimmage."

Tennessee Vols' top five defensive preseason position battles
"And it’s not completely out of the question that freshman D’Andre Payne or senior Riyahd Jones could work his way into the mix, although both of them spent more time working with the second- and third-team defenses during the spring."
