Not give into the unrealistic asking price from Gruden. Its not Harts fault and as has been mentioned Haslam wouldnt sign off on all Gruden wanted. No University would and I dont blame them at all. Obviously Gruden has a higher self worth than everyone thinks he is worth. No way in hell could UT have given him everything he wanted. Dont understand taking it out on Hart, Haslam was just as involved and the right decision was made. We will have a good coach and not be in a forever debt Gruden would have us in. Strong would be a great hire, so would Patterson and Fisher, possibly even Fedora. Im all for hiring Strong now and going and securing a top 10 class. Go Vols!

Dude, I thought you said it was a 110% done deal? Weren't you calling out people that didn't believe that Gruden was the next HFC?

That's not the issue I had with Hart. It's the perception (whether real or imagined) that Gruden was not at the top of his list. I really don't think that Hart wanted Gruden due to the fact that Gruden would have owned the Athletic Department by virtue of simply arriving on campus. I really think that Hart was concerned about his own loss of power in the event that Gruden had become HC.
Of course that's...JMHO.

I don't understand the hate for Strong. He took his Louisville team to a BCS bowl game.

I think he is a great coordinator, I'm just not sold on his head coaching experience coming from Louisville to the SEC.

Here we go again

Please give me your much needed intelligence that's missing from the ones who didnt make the hire. Obviously your a businessman worth millions and know things that the guys who have done it for yrs dont know. I say put a little something together for Hart and Haslam and let them know the error of their ways. Im sure they would listen to a knowledgeable poster on VN with the business savy you posess.

Wasnt so much the money it was full control over everything including only answering to himself basically. Not hard to find its been all over VN.

That's the point Sly is making. There's a ton of crap on here. We're all starting to smell like it.

I do agree with you on that, but Hart has done this for yrs and I'm sure he knows Gruden's demeanor and everything involved with him and was probably a reason he wasnt his top guy. Trust me I wanted Gruden as much as anybody and still do but these guys know more about this than us.

Hey bro you obviously know so please tell us. If money and power wasnt an issue he is HC today. And it doesnt take anyone with insiders to figure that out.

The real statement should be..."how dare those who expected Gruden to actually come here". And even if he did just how long long would it take for the NFL to call and see him do a Lane Kiffin. Time to move on and go to Realville.

Ok, fine, but where is "Realville"? And PLEASE, do NOT say Fulmer! The heck with his record, he got us here and the coaches we have just failed to take us back.

I don't trust Dave Hart. He has given me no reason to trust him. I don't believe he really wanted to fire Dooley as evidenced by the fact that he kept him far too long. His hand was forced by the Vanderbilt loss. I don't believe that he has his finger on the pulse of UT. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, but he is from Alabama, certainly not a VFL.

I hope I am wrong. I hope he is a freaking genius and I hope that whoever he hires succeeds beyond everyone's wildest expectations, I really do because I love the University of Tennessee. I had the same hope with Mike Hamilton and look where it has gotten our beloved Volunteers.

and yet there are people convinced that a former NFL coach and current ESPN announcer, who has never coached a single collegiate game, will be the savior of UT football

if Strong can't make the move to the SEC, what hope is there that Gruden will after four years away from the sidelines?

You're right. It's completely implausible that he never really wanted the damn job in the first place. Gruden has been playing Just-The-Tip with us and errbody else for 5 years. It's not likely to stop any time soon.

Honestly nobody knows but he has done a good job with Louisville cleaning up the crap he inherited. It wasnt a Bobby Petrino Louisville he inherited it was ran into the ground before Strong took over. What did Saban do or win at Mich St to deserve the LSU job? What did Fulmer do to deserve the UT job? Strong has a track record of having great defenses in the best conference in college. He is one of the most respected and well known recruiters in FL and he doesnt conduct himself like an idiot nor does he allow his players to do so. The others guyz being mentioned with Strong, Fisher, Fedora, Mora, Roman dont have any better track records. Patterson has been successful but hasnt shown he can recruit at a SEC level or put defenses together that were in and out some of the best in the Conf while he was there. He has a young Louisville team and considering what he walked into and had its pretty amazing what he has done in just a few yrs. Dont see anything negative about the guy. Not 1 thing!

There might be people who are convinced, I'm not one of them. I don't want Strong for the reason I listed, among others. I have a realistic list I would like to see here, Gruden and Strong aren't on it.

No, unlike many on here, I'll freely admit that I don't know one single fact of what is or has happened. So, again, what was the dollar amount that Gruden was asking?
