Lol at everyone in this saying that Kiffin "failed" in 2009. Regardless of what he did, most UT fans were excited about the direction we were going in at that point. I'm not defending Kiffin by any means and i'm glad we don't have to worry about him being in charge anymore, but I definitely didn't label that season as a failure going into 2010. Objectively speaking, he inherited a mess.

This post should be directed at the overall wearers who predicted 9 or 10 wins last year, not at me. I'm pretty sure I predicted a losing season the entire time.
Yeah, God forbid anyone predict a 6-7 season when we went 6-7. He must not be a real fan.
I htink USC paid Kiffin this much money for 5 reasons...
1) No body else wanted the job...they were self-aware of this (currently see OSU)
2) They knew they could get him
3) They know he can recruit
4) Once the sanctions are over, the cupboard is stocked for a new guy
5) They now have justification to pay the new head coach (i.e. someone currently in the NFL 5 Mill a year)
JMO...
If you know you can get someone, you don't just give them more money anyway for the hell of it.
And they don't need justification to pay big money...they're USC. How much was Mike Shula making before Saban got there?
See reason 5...I believe they primarily pay him this much so they can pay the next guy even more...and guarantee they get whomever they want...no argiung with 5 mill plus a year.
Why not just pay the next guy 5 million without paying Kiffin more to do it?
The second part of my post was in response to reason 5...so I'll ask again...how much was Bama paying Shula before they gave Saban 4 mil?
I see your guys point...and to answer the question, I believe it was in the 1.5 to 2 million range.
I'm just saying, that I think USC is trying to set up a precedent of paying this much so they don't have to haggle to pay the next guy.
Remember, they are a private institution and it is probably easier to get the cash flow now than to try to get it later when the economy is not so good. By ecoomy I mean the football receipts may also suffer through the sanctions...
Bama was under sanction and paid Shula 900K, then raised it to 1.5 mil, then gave Saban 4 mil.
You're saying USC will be the opposite and they'll have less and less cash when their sanctions go away?
