On espn and other stations like Fox Sports and on radio. I know they all don't have broadcast degrees.

The audience is already familiar with them (and in many cases, viewers already like them).

Kind of becomes a much easier sell towards picking up a viewer to watch.

I would much rather listen to a former player or coach talk because they know what they are talking about.. jo shmo with a broadcasting degree gives me nothing because they don't know Football.. or whatever sport it is.

That is the reason I listen to TSR 1180 and not 99.1.. because TSR is all former players on every show except Hooker, which is the only show on that station I don't like.. although he is a huge upgrade from Basilio, which is who they had before.

But former players add insight to the game because they themselves have been in that spot before. Ainge and swain on TSR are particularly good at it. Plus they have more info the normal reporters due to the fact they get to stay at practice longer because they are former players.

Connections.

But you can still take courses/classes. I doubt that every former athlete who's interviewed for a spot gets it.

I feel bad for you considering he's one of the worst speakers who makes a living off providing "quality content".
I like him, he's a former player that gives you that on the floor opinion. But at the same time he talks like one of your friends sittin on the sofa watching the game.

I like Charles Barkley, but he is stupid. He's barely litterate for crying out loud.

Sir Charles knows the game of a basketball better than any of them on TV. His straight forward honesty, assessment of athletes, and his opinion of the game as a whole is refreshing actually.

The fact that he doesn't worry about political correctness is great.
