How do you assess this season?

We are in and have a chance to win at least 2, if we get to the sweet 16, then we had a good season 1 win fair season.

I have almost 0 faith in Cuonzo to win a post season game. But he better make a run while he can because I cant see any way we make it next year.

But i guess crazier things have happened.

They have ended the season on a good run, but it was against bad teams. They played a great first half today, but disappeared in the second. They're likely in the tournament, but if they go out in the first round is the season a success? Unlike some, I think the regular season matters. With the schedule they played they probably should have lost 5 games instead of 12. I think it's a bit like the football team expecting to go 10-2, but going 7-5. I said before the season that this team needed to 1) win a bunch of games (>25) or 2) go on a deep tournament run for a successful season . . . still a chance for the latter.

At this point the season has been a failure, no other way around it unless the Vols make a deep run into the NCAAT!

Season hasn't ended yet. However, Bruce Pearl showed us what success looks like and this season, so far, ain't it. Buzz went 61-59 (.508) in 4 seasons, Cuonzo has bettered that with 60-40 (.600) in 2+ seasons with the tourney to go. Bruce went 145-61 (.704) making National Coach of the Year the first season, 6 NCAA appearances, and the rest is history.

I got used to winning under Pearl and this year's talented team under his direction would IMO never have been in doubt of an NCAA bid at any time.

This year's NCAA and next year will tell the tale for Cuonzo, but Bruce Pearl has set the bar for Tennessee fans who want to beat hell out of KY and FL and then go deep into the tourney. Auburn, who fired Tony Barbee yesterday, and Alabama, if they fire Billy Jr, are already ready to make a play for Pearl so their fans think (see AL.com).

Alabama isn't making a play for anyone.

Not on Martin's bandwagon. Late win streak was against
weak SEC teams. Offense scores only 14 2nd half points!
Nothing against the guy. I just don't like the way he runs the team, too conservative in game. Just IMO.

14 second half points? What the h*ll happen to the offense in crunch time?

Regular season a disappointment. Make it to Sweet 16 and all bad losses will be forgiven

Tennessee can not beat Ky , Fla , with Conzo the Great:whistling:

He didn't lose them until this year, when they didn't lose an SEC game and will be a #1 seed, and he gave Kentucky their worst beating in the series.

And our former coach couldn't beat Kentucky either.

Not a Cuonzo apologist but beat both of them last season, including a 30 point beat down of KY

I am not a big ZO guy, but we beat Kentucky by 37 or 38 the most any TENNESSEE team has ever beat them in the history of Tennessee basketball.

This team is going to the sweet 16, book it mark it down we are going, call it whatever you want to, todays game we could have won, in the long run might just be the best thing that could happen, we wont make these same mistakes in the last 5 minutes like we did today in the next tight game, so by losing like we did might just win one for us in the dance, that's what I am taking out of todays game, everybody get there head up we are TENNESSEE, WE DONT HANG OUR HEADS AFTER A TOUGH LOSS, look at that BIG T on your hat, we are TENNESSEE.

It's simple really. We as fans felt like they didn't give it their all and that they should have played harder/stronger. The players said that they weren't playing hard and that they "just got it" a few games ago. We saw it as fans, they admitted it as players. They didn't think they had to bring it every game. I get it. It's not the end of the world.

Not with this roster, if Martin can't win with Stokes and McRae who can he win with? 12 losses is a failure.

At the risk of sounding like I'm bashing the seniors, maybe he "can win" (which having won 20 games a year I would say constitutes as winning) with all his recruits. A group of guys that have came to UT predominantly due to him and play balls out from game 1. Not saying it will happen but your question was why would it.

I assume the answer for me will be "disappointing" but we'll have to see what happens in the tourney to be sure. The regular season fell short of my expectations. We lost to many more bad teams than I thought we should and we were lacking any real exciting moments. Even our huge win over UVA was, at the time, no big deal as they were somewhere around 80 RPI at the time if I remember correctly. That win is so much more enjoyable in hindsight than it was at the time.

Anyway, the season could be redefined by a tourney run but I suspect this season will be labeled a disappointment from me.

Same thing 3 yrs running. It showed itself against SC the last 30 minutes. Showed again yesterday the last 20.
We go down swinging less than I prefer to watch.
