How embarrassed would you be....

Academically -- at least -- they are comparable universities in most of their departments.

I am a little surprised there is a such a wide gap between their rankings.

UConn is widely known as a Public Ivy. UK...not so much.

"Widely known as a Public Ivy"?

News to me. I think you need to be at least a top 25 school before you can start throwing that around, not to mention they accept close to 50-percent of applicants.

Kentucky is ranked 129th (63rd among public universities) best college in the nation; UConn is 69th (27th among public universities). Kentucky accepts 74% of applicants.

And, yes, it is known as a Public Ivy according to Howard Greene who knows a little bit about Ivy League schools and admissions.

Look, it is a good school. But I am in this industry and I don't know of any cache associated with a UCONN degree, over say, a UK degree. It certainly has no cache when compared to say UC-Berkeley, or UCLA. Of course it varies by department, and UCONN is marginally better overall, but again, they accept over 50-percent of their applicants.

There is nothing Ivy about that.

More to the point, the best students are comparable at both schools. My guess is the UK is a bit more "bottom heavy" than UCONN, but not by much.
