How I wish Pippen Jr. was a Vol

Drawing contact in the paint is nothing like jumping into defenders on the perimeter.

Uh, yes it is. It's tricking another player into an unwanted foul. It's intelligent and legal basketball, whether occurring at 1/2 court or pt blank at the time.

I don’t get all of the hate in this thread. Pippen Jr is a really good college player. He is a volume shooter but he delivers more times than not. I don’t believe his game translates well to the NBA. He’s obviously no steph curry (3pt % wise) but man he’s been great for Vandy and Stackhouse. Speaking of Stackhouse…I think he’s doing an awesome job and one of the up-and-coming coaches. In a land of ~meh~ previous pros trying to coach, I think he’s one of the really good ones.

Pippen jumps forward into players going straight up. Those aren’t fouls. Grant faked post players out that JUMPED IN TO HIM.

This is a TN forum. Junior plays for the lowest class athletic program in the SEC.

Pippen’s game is awful to watch, annoying to play against, and I wouldn’t argue with you if you called it soft. He gets buckets, but he’s inefficient without the ticky tack fouls. I hope he gets the whistles against UK tonight but you’re blind if you can’t see why people are hating on him.

I 100% agree with you on stackhouse though. He’s done an incredible job this year.

I get it’s annoying to play against. He gets a friendly whistle. But he’s a good college player IMO. If you disagree that fine.

Touch fouls only happen in the paint with ****** refs. There is actually hard contact made in one scenario. No comparison.

He’s a decent college player. He’s good for Vandy. However, if I’m trying to find any player from another sec team that I wish played for UT, he’s not remotely close to the top of that list.

I'm not going to bat for the kid as a future NBA star like his dad, who happens to be my favorite NBA player of all time, but you've presented a good deal of misinformation in order to make your point.

First, he's a career 35% shooter from 3. That isn't elite by any stretch, but even just this season, his worst statistically, he's shooting 33.5%, which is 10th in the SEC among players who attempt at least five 3s per game. He's a solid shooter, but his game is about getting to the paint and scoring at the rim or in the mid-range, and drawing contact.

Second, he's already been an all-SEC player twice and he's only a junior. He was all-SEC as a sophomore, and again this year. He was this year's preseason SEC POY for that matter. You painted a picture of some developmental player waiting to pay off until his final year when in reality, he is basically the Vanderbilt guard version of Grant Williams, who coincidentally had NBA questions around his size and how his game translated to the NBA.

Pippen Jr. may not find NBA success, but he definitely has outperformed his recruiting ranking and expectation level as a collegiate player.
Really good post. Pippen Jr. seems like a good kid and a great teammate. Could have thrived under Barnes.
Now his Dad was a boss. One of my favorite players of all time.

Vanderbilt had a chance to upset Kentucky tonight, but Pippen made sure that wouldn’t happen.

It’s hard to remember a more overrated player in SEC history. If he leaves, they could be really tough next year.
