How long after the fall...

How long do you have after you're program has a fall off (us after the mid 2000s) do you have to salvage and stay near the top? I think Kiffin could have turned us around and kept us there, and probably even Dooley in his first 2 years, so my answer would be 3 years from drop is what you have before you fall into what we have now, a decade of mediocrity.

Lol... How many of these stupid threads are we going to have? 2015 and 2016 NFL drafts with 0 UT players taken. That should tell you all you need to know about the dumpster fire CBJ and staff inherited. 2017 draft will have multiple players drafted.

Please stop posting until you grow up!

It all depends on the coach. Look at Washington. They've never been on top. But the hire an elite coach and they're in the playoffs. Or even a better example would be Michigan. They've been compared to us a bunch. They went through a couple of mediocre coaches are the same time frame as us. But the they finally got it figured out and we still haven't. They're last go round they threw a tin of money at the biggest name out there and it immediately paid off. As for us, we went the value route and now we're stuck with les miles...minus the gutsy calls

Did UM have 63 scholarship players when JH arrived? NOOOOOOOO!

GOOD GRIEF PEOPLE!

add to it that Kiffin would have had us on Probation.

OP is this a statement or a question?

Whatever it is, there is no need to look backward, wiser to look at where we are going versus trying to drive a car by only looking at the rear view mirror.

Patience is a terrible word but it is often used. It's realistic.

If CBJ can't get the results, we will fire him, but because of his efforts we will be in a much better position to hire a newer and better coach in the future.

If he pans out we will not have to do so. We are much better off than we were 4 years ago in the ability to land a better coach.

Right now UT is not in the position to be paying a 10 million dollar pay off.. with bama Dave almost out of the picture, maybe we can actually get a dam athletics director that will do something..

Yeah, all they had to do was throw money at him AND BE IN AN AREA OF THE COUNTRY he wanted to live and coach...we could've done that. And Harbaugh only needed a money whipping from his ALMA MATER right after Jed York went Jerry Jones in the Bay Area...totally relevant. :salute:

No kidding, between the Fulmer and Dooley pay offs you would think that the AD would just budget for it. LOL

There is no need at this point to send CBJ on his way but down the road it may very well happen. There are other coaches that need to go before CBJ does.

We have spent more buyout money in the last 10 years, that would have paid for a premier coach to come here.

Surprised that we didn't end up owing Kiffin or Tyndall money on their way out the door. Hamilton and Hart's contracts.

I have come to the belief that UTK's downturn happened at the worst possible time in a changing landscape. Our AD was scared ****less of the NCAA after the Fulmer Cup, Hostessgate, Bruce's cookout, etc. So scared that he only considered super squeaky clean candidates for HFC. At the same time, Saban was inventing the art of bypassing the bump rule, deferred payment car loans became a sound business practice, and players were stumbling on stacks of cash that they felt obliged to pose with and post on social media. Whether we were overly cautious or did what we had to do may be debatable, what is not really debatable is that the ground rules changed and we were unwilling or unable to adapt quickly enough to keep up.
