How long before Heupel makes changes with OL?

The one slight criticism I've had for a while with Heupel is that he sticks with underperforming experienced players too long. It' subtle, but it part of his stubbornness. He seems to wait one loss too many before making changes. He might add a wrinkle here or there in the playcalling, but not much different with personnel. I think thats the case here. He sticks with his initial starting lineup until the end of the game, even if we lose with them. If that happens, he will the feel forced, that he has no other option, but to change something.

But we all see the problems now, so I don't understand waiting. Why do the same thing over and over and expect different results?

Seems the only option for the O line is to get Heard healthy and hope he lives up to his big pay check. The sad situation here is that there is apparently no one better than an injured out of shape Heard they can play. There is some recruiting failures here.

Ironically, this was a common complaint about Phillip Fulmer. Experience tends to work on game day. I think fans sometimes think the backups are better than they are.

Yes what a ridiculous idea.
The hurt , out of shape, limited Heard is the obvious choice
Did I say Heard is the obvious choice?

They’re trying to play him into shape. This isn’t an easy solution. I’m simply saying Campbell is limited, putting him in an even more demanding pass blocking position isn’t going to go well.

I’m not disagreeing with the thought we have to do something. Simply saying idk that Campbell is the answer.

Sigh...

So many cannot wait to pounce with the negative thoughts that appear to constantly swirl through their brains.
Sometimes negative thoughts are facts.

I think the problem is they did not set the OL until Monday of the UTC week by using competition all summer. They should have set the OL coming out of spring practice so they would have been meshing together and developing consistency over the summer.

Too bad because this year was Heupel’s shot. We lose to much on the OL and DL to compete next year.

Negative thoughts are just as valid as positive thoughts if not more.

He’s absolutely right about what he said. Heupel legit thought Milton was better. He can make mistakes like anyone else.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. Heupel was forced to play Hooker because of an injury...not because of anything he evaluated and figured out. Every coach evaluates his players in practice. Idk if Campbell is better but CJH hasn't reached any level of being above question.
Nor will any coach.

Some people are silly on here, and just lose all touch with reality. Heupel has had a few missteps in judgment.

His offense is getting shutdown right now, but people look past that too are say it’s lack of execution from the players.

Look, one team's o-line or d-line is going to set the tone for the game and be the reason one team wins. Our d-line is capable of doing this, but our o-line has got to play well. Heck play above average and we should win. And, if Heupel cannot scheme up stuff to compensate for the weak o-line, we have bigger problems. We have to play to our strengths and attack their weaknesses. Bama does not run the ball particularly well nor are they playing good pass defense. We have to stop Milroe from hitting big plays running and passing and we have to exploit their pass defense. It can be done. It should be done. Nico has to be quicker with the reads and get rid of the ball. The line has to block a half second longer or push their guy back a foot farther. Small details combine to make huge changes.

Ainge was in this camp preseason 2022 as he watched many practices. Just saying.. Hooker took a while to get noticed and appreciated. As for Heard, sometimes he looked absolutely helpless and lost, however he balled out on Sampson's touchdown and made the key block. A flash of what could be. Being injured makes it hard to stay in shape. Not being in shape makes you miss a step, and missing a step makes you look helpless at times.

Folks here were saying "Wow, we sure need Heard". Why? Because of underperformance by his predecessor. Honestly, not making a pitch for Heard, but it's obvious we have a depth problem. One of Bama's strengths over the years is that they have depth. Depth gives you fresh legs in the 4th quarter, which is where games are won. We don't have that at LT, and may not for the rest of the season.

Heupel thought Milton was better than Hooker. He is not beyond questioning.
Yes, he thought that based on what the QBs DEMONSTRATED in practices. You see, the Heup didn't have Harry Potter's wand to tell him what his eyes saw, really wasn't there. Not being a warlock with a harem of witches, he couldn't concoct a spell for a crystal ball to show him his eyes were lying as well. It was sort of like Lyle Allen constant overlooking Josh Dobbs, until Worley, Riley, and Peterman, just weren't getting the job done. Then game time, and along came the Dobb goblin. Bet you wouldn't have any better (and probably worse under the circumstances)than either coach.

I say implement the Rick Barnes approach to the OLine. Sub out starters for a drive or two if they have a glaring mistake or penalty. There needs to be more accountability. You can't just sit back and say its a different guy every play or we are just one player from executing away. You have to insert yourself and make sure it happens. Not sit back and passively watch it destroy the team's chances of winning.

Negativity breeds more of the same. The same way positivity does.

So if pissing and moaning is your thing, go ahead and br miserable.

I honestly don’t think heard should see the field put Campbell back to Lt and Davis to Rt
Campbell? 3 flags for 35 yds and a big play called back against FL… all on his own.

Doesn’t sound like Heup has many GOOD options at OL.
