I love the thought of a Gruden hire and the fact that it would put us back on the path to national prominence where we belong, have earned the right to be for the last 100 years, and will one day again be no matter what happens. My only concern is his level of loyalty. Is it possible that in two years he could have us on the cusp of greatness and then get an NFL itch and leave us Kiffen style(granted i think he would do it with more class). If so would it not be better to have an A- coach for 10-12 years than an A+ coach for 2-3? I am just interested to see what everyone else thinks.

This is a big concern that I have about hiring Gruden. If we hire him, we need a coordinator that is capable of taking over as an SEC caliber HC.

A- coach for 10-12 years sounds great. Who is there though? I think Gruden could be as loyal as anyone if his family really loves this area like they say they do.

Because of he and his wifes connections to UT and the Knoxville area I believe it'd be his intention to stay a while but if he's unhappy with the college game that could change things. I really dont think its all about money for him because I believe he could get more in the NFL. I think people are missing the point that he and the Mrs. want to be at UT.

Id say he would be here for the long haul, Im sure the family gets tired of moving around. Its got to be hard on the kids switching schools often.

If, and I mean if, Gruden comes it will be because he wants to be here. There are several college openings and 5-10 NFL positions available. He could be anywhere, so if he comes here, I think he will stay for the long haul.

At first I would have said 3-4 years while he gets his feet wet before jumping back to the NFL. Now I honestly think he would stick it out for up to 10-12 depending on the level of success. If he wins a NC or two he may want a new challenge. Who knows.

Don't go looking for a coach to stay any place for 15-20 years.

I would be happy with a coach whomwould raise our program to a championship level and leave in 5-6 years. You can stay too long. Fulmer is proof of that.

And for the most part I agree, but ask yourself. Would Fulmer produced better results than Dooley over the last 3 seasons? I have no problem upgrading but you don't replace a HOF coach 100 games OVER .500 for Lane Kiffin. Hindsight is obviously 20-20, just saying from about 08 on we have been in a downward spiral.

Fulmer crashed the program through negligence and arrogance. It was not an accident.

I never said he didn't...I feel Fulmer would have done a better job the last 4 years than what we have. I'm totally fine with the decision to remove Phil, I just wish we would have secured a better coach afterwards!!

This doesn't concern me. Even if he was to leave in 2 or 3 years if he comes in here and puts together solid recruiting classes, wins 8-10 games a year. Then add in a couple of bowl wins and gets us back into the top 15-20 rankings.

Then if he does leave Tennessee would be positioned (as long as Tennessee is willing to once again spend money) to go out and hire another big (hot/popular) name coach.

Until the fans base who post on here try to run him off in about 2014.
