How long would Gruden stay at Tennessee?

I love the thought of a Gruden hire and the fact that it would put us back on the path to national prominence where we belong, have earned the right to be for the last 100 years, and will one day again be no matter what happens. My only concern is his level of loyalty. Is it possible that in two years he could have us on the cusp of greatness and then get an NFL itch and leave us Kiffen style(granted i think he would do it with more class). If so would it not be better to have an A- coach for 10-12 years than an A+ coach for 2-3? I am just interested to see what everyone else thinks.

Until the fans base who post on here try to run him off in about 2014. Then we would have a buy out of about $100,000 million which posters would want Pilot Oil to fund.

Forever...He will create a dominate program that wins NC after NC. He will then drink from the fountain of youth and continue to coach as long as there is college football. Over the next 250 years he will win 249 NCs.

(It takes him a year to get the team he wants)

Why do you think he would leave? Doesn't make sense. He could have any job he wants right now, nfl or college. Ive heard all along he insists on a long term deal. Why demand a long term deal if your not totally committed? IF he comes its because his wife wants to settle down near her family and Jon likes the area and coaching college kids. I really think he prefers teaching college kids over working with a bunch of prima donna millionaires.

As the seasons pass, the buyout for him to get out of a contract go down. Hopefully, the economy will stabilize and begin to improve. That being said, when an NFL team is doing well enough or one with deep enough pockets makes it worth his while and will pay our buyout, he is gone. Could be 2, could be 3. Chucky's ego is too big to stay in college over an extended period of time.

A Gruden Hire, Charlie Strong Hire, Stoops? Loyalty? None of these really have strong ties to UT. If any of these were to be our next coach if we are in the Sugar Bowl in 2-3 even 4 years they would be highly desired by the whole Nation as you have to recruit nationally as Tennessee is not a talent rich state. If you are looking for loyalty, rehire Fulmer, he is loyal like a puppy. I say hire the best coach possible, rebuild the program and IF that coach does leave us, it is much easier to hire a new coach at a successful program.

I've said it a hundred times. The only proven, big-name coach who would take this job, at this time, is Fulmer.

6-7 years.

If he reallty wanted to be at Tennessee, he would have made himself available after Fulmer.

Lolololololol!!!! :eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

I am one of the few on here who respects Fulmer. I felt it was time for a change in 08 but in his day Fulmer was hard to beat and he deserves respect.

That said, they can and will get a big name coach.

I figure if he takes the job he is here for about five years. I don't think he is a guy that would stay 15 years. If he don't win then most of us will want him gone in three years.

This is the the thought I find most interesting.

I have no reservations whatsoever about the university pursuing JG. He is an interesting character, has high visibility, seems like a decent guy and has a decent track record as a coach. If he is hired, I will be as excited about him as anyone I can think of.

But, the thing that I don't understand is the huge wave of the fandom that thinks is a given that he will be excellent as the next HC.

There are lots of opinions and arguments as to why he would be successful, but it seems ridiculous to me to think it a given that he can out-perform a current BCS HC who is enjoying success at another school.

The NFL is a totally different ball game and requires a different talent. Just ask Steve Spurrier.
