How many Americans have no health insurance?

i'm not a huge guiliani guy but at this point he might be the best option.

I'm still not confident that he'll survive the Primaries . . . which doesn't really bother me that much.

It bothers me that his 2 kids from his last marriage won't speak to him much less vote for him.

The Republicans were pretty upset with Clinton when had an affair with Monica in the White House. Guiliani had an affair in office, divorced his wife so he could marry her, and in his 3rd marriage to his former mistress is leading in the polls with endorsements from the religious right, like Pat Robertson. It seems a little disingenious.

Exactly . . . There are cheap short term options out there. People just have gotten so used to health insurance being tied to their employer that they don't consider other options.

You are correct that people don't look at other options. I haven't had an employer for 15 years and haven't had health insurance for almost that long. I go to the doctor on a regular basis (3 to 6 months based on his requirements) and pay for my own scripts. Interesting to note that the doctor charges me less than other patients......still nets the same amount.

Now, am I totally naked if I need major surgery or am diagnosed with cancer (doesn't run in my family btw)? No. I live in a county that has a public hospital that cannot turn me away due to lack of insurance and also have access to the VA hospital.

Had a reasonable policy been available I would have taken it. However, a policy with reasonable coverage (not as good as with my previous employer) was a minimum of $500 a month.

BTW, I am a big believer in alternative medicine. That usually isn't covered by health insurance.

No offense, but I really hope that relying on indigent care doesn't enter your thought process if you can actually afford coverage.

I agree. There are thousands of procedures that could vastly improve your life that the average ER ain't going to pay for. also someone will make you pay that eventually (unles you make like 10K a year) if you survive. you should really consider getting a blue cross style emergency policy that covers major disasters. you don't want to be in debt the rest of your life just you get unlucky and end up in the hospital for a couple of months.

Plus the fact that if you knowingly take advantage of indigent care when you have means to pay otherwise makes you a deadbeat.

You missed the part of my post that explained that I do receive excellent medical care at my expense.

The county hospital and VA hospital are mentioned as a resource for major problems and would only be used if I needed a proceedure in an emergency situation. If the county hospital is utilized they will bill you and it may take years to repay. My point is that they cannot refuse you simply because you do not have insurance.

I should also mention that I am, and have been, single throughout this period with no children insurable by me.
