I predict that the freshmen that see significant starting or playing time will be determined by Butch Jones, and not by a bunch of bored yahoos on VolNation. And that includes me.

Oh! We were "determining" playing time on here...thought we were just exchanging sports opinions...I'll stay sober in the future. :eek:hmy:

Not good, having true freshmen in the two deep is one thing, but as starters it's quite another. Especially in the SEC. Very few are ready to play like Cam Sutton was last season.

Tell that to ole miss who started 6-7 true freshman several times last yr. It's a new day. While you obviously don't want a ton of freshman starting lots of kids are so talented that they can do it. ESP the level of players we brought in and the players they did in 2013

I bet this time last yr you didn't think 3 star sutton would come in and be ready. There will be several that can hold their own IMO

You do realize these types of discussions are what this board is for right?

I forgot about Gaulden..... If they are still gonna use him at corner then i could see him playing right away.

Ole Miss was more talented last season with the true freshman that they played but they also took a step back last season losing to a very average Miss State team.

there should be maybe a couple of freshman that get playing time let alone starts,i'm with you, it isn't going to be good, for several years,we will have to wait and see if CBJ and company can keep the recruiting at the level they have started at and be able to develop the players ,it should be fun to watch :)

Barring injury we won't see a freshman start on D-line. Someone would have to unseat Sals,Owens and O'Brien to get in the middle. Then at end you got Maggit,Vereen, and Jordan Williams i do think some will get play time but starts will be hard to come by for T-Froshmen on the D-line.

If all those you mentioned don't keep their chin straps on tight every day, we may see several of the 1st year DL and DE guys out there.

Much will depend on how hard the guys who didn't get to enroll early worked out at home, and how they do now. At this point and with the concerns of depth at both lines, it wouldn't shock me if some of the freshmen see a good deal of playing time.

Barring injury, I don't see many freshmen cracking the starting lineup. Depending on the development of Moseley and Gaulden, I could see one of them starting so Coleman can move to nickel. Don't see any other s cracking the starting lineup. Where I do see this class having an immediate is increased competition, greater depth, and a more athletic SpT.

There will be a few, like Sutton and North last year, I say at linebacker, CB, and OT. That's three that I can think of out of necessity. But, the biggest contribution will be the added talent in the two deep across the board on defense, and Special Teams. UT will be more talented than last year with the freshman and juco's but will that translate into more wins? Let's hope it does this fall. GBO!

Secondary and OT I agree with. In the secondary, I believe we already have 4 starters in Sutton, Randolph, Mcneil, and Colemen. Just not sure if Coleman will be at corner or nickel. The progress of Moseley, Foreman and Gaulden will help decide that.

At OT, I don't think anyone would be surprised to see Coleman start.

At linebacker, I expect that the starters will be Johnson, Maggitt, and Maybin.
