Sears announced several more closings today.

The East Town Mall location was one.

Gold's Gym closed a couple of weeks ago, I believe.

When do the owners finally put this place out of its misery?

Malls are closing everywhere. In the tricities, The Bristol mall closed and the Kingsport mall is not far behind.

Thanks, Amazon!!

I haven't been there in many years. Do they still have the map on the floor of the U.T. campus (probably outdated by 25 years or so by now)? I used to think that was cool.

Still there. No stores open around it, but the map of UT is still intact.

Last time I went there was 15 years ago to drive a guy who looked like me to the dmv to get a new drivers license so I could use his old one as my fake Id. Place seemed like a ghost town then.

That place took a nose dive when they used camping etc as the design theme. Fish on the wall etc. :)
Almost forgot, the gun tower in the parking lot just screams let's go shopping here...bawahaha

When Taco Bell and Chic-Fil-A can't survive........

It's done son, push it down and build a park

Bristol is pushing all their retail to the Pinnacle and Kingsport is Kingsport. Yet the JC mall is still full of stores and parking lot always seems full. Personally I’ve avoided the mall as much as possible. Long before Amazon was invented.

The JC mall is a thriving enterprise...by the way I love the tri-cities.

I can't believe it opened in '84. I thought it was later than that around '87. It was a long way to go from Lenoir City so I didn't go there often.

Agreed that this has nothing to do with Amazon. It has more to do with the revival of Market Square and downtown shopping, as well as the addition of Turkey Creek.

Factor in the area, and you’ll see why East Town is in bad shape. Sure, online shopping doesn’t help. But it’s just one of many factors.

It’s a shame, because I loved East Town as a kid. Just part of progression, I suppose.

I went there with my mom and older sister (who recently passed) not long after it opened in 1984 because she needed to go to Lens Crafters. I was 10 and had never even heard of Sbarro... Let's just say that upon my first taste of their pizza, I was instantly smitten.

The last time I went to East Town Mall had something to do with a license plate renewal.

I go there sometimes when in town to go to Belks. They have good sale prices on nice dress shirts sometimes.

I go about once a month just to see what’s going on and what’s gone. Last time I actually went and watched a movie. It wasn’t crowded and the theatre was clean and nice.
