Do you think “average” guard play is a strength? And by “average” I mean near the bottom of the SEC? Define weakness because it is far from a strength

Highest level defense only needs to be paired with average offense to win a lot of games. Our defensive guard play has been much better than average and hardly a weakness.

In case you haven't noticed we are not even better than the bottom half of the SEC right now much less trying to compare us to Top 25 teams. We will get beat by double digits next game. The game won't be in doubt after halftime. Some will still say we were in it because we kept it under 12 for a while or for the game. Then claim victory.

Oh,I've noticed the games they've lost that they were the more talented team on the floor (Colorado,Vanderbilt, Florida.... Missouri is at least in the tournament) I'm not one for moral victories myself, but losing two games in a row on buzzer beaters doesn't automatically mean Alabama is going to shoot lights out,and run them out of the gym. They are a team that lives by the three point shot, and against Oklahoma,it cost them.

With UT and their defense,if they deny the three point shot and contain Brandon Miller, it's a winnable game. Anything can happen.

Exactly! #4 Arizona lost to an 11-14 Stanford team. Teams have a tendency to have let down games or even disappointing years all together.

Stanford has rebounded from pathetic to playing very well. That win over Az was no fluke, especially at Stanford. Tennessee losing at home was unfathomable considering the L to Vandy.

I have decided to just put posters on ignore if they prove (like the posters you are responding) to have ZERO clue about basketball. Result is I am exposed much less to the idiots that are "fans" of UT basketball. Lots of people are clueless about basketball but the ones that don't know they are ignorant and spew their ignorance are just an annoyance that I choose to cut out.
I for one am glad you have appointed yourself to be the hall monitor who determines who knows basketball and who doesn’t. Get over yourself

Alabama got embarrassed by a 12-13 Oklahoma team.

Not sure what’s so funny other than your inability to grasp the concept.

To act like Tennessee is the only team that’s lost to bad teams this season is foolish.
The difference is Bama only has 3 losses, hasn't lost 3 of 4, and isn't staring down the barrel of possibly losing 5 of 6. This all goes back to my banter with BTO about how bad it was to **** the bed against UK and Florida with the extremely back heavy schedule. These aren't little hiccups anymore.

So you'd be willing to wager that the Vols will win no more than one more game?
If I was a betting man, then yes. Bama and Kentucky are going to roll the Vols. I hope they dont but this team is a shell of itself from when they played so well against Texas. So, I see only a win versus South Carolina and the rest are losses. Which ones do you think they are going to win?

Name a single offensive category where either of our starting guards are even slightly above average. Defense doesn’t win in the tournament much less championships so help me understand how that is a positive. Has Barnes won a lot of games at UT? Absolutely, but he has been a major disappointment in the tournament and it is largely due to poor offensive performances not good defensive play

Vescovi is hitting over 35% of his 3-point attempts.

ZZ’s assist/TO ratio is well over 2x.

JJJ is also a guard. Makes over 90% of his free throws.

I don't think it is as much a fall as it is an awareness and understanding late season that Tennessee isn't as talented as the record may have indicated along the way, nor are those big wins in the Bahamas, Kansas isn't a dominant team this year, the success against Texas was fully offset by collapses against Colorado, Kentucky, Florida, Vanderbilt and trailing by 17 at home against Mizzou, only to rally back and blow a late 5 point lead at home.

Nice Barnes coached team, good kids, average basketball players, but no one who paid attention to how this team won ugly, but was prone to total collapses, expected any deep conference or NCAA tourney runs this this year.

So Purdue higher ranked all season than Vols lost by 6. to Northwestern I guess they’ll fahr Coach Painter it’s over bring out the pitch forks drive byes

Vescovi’s 3 point percentage is a pretty good number. I will give you that point but as a whole our guards should be the strength of the team with three seniors. It isn’t. Coming into the season very little was expected of Uros, or Olivier and they have performed well at times but overall very few players on the team have met their potential. Averaging 31 points a game from three of your most veteran players is not good especially when you play three guards for most of the game.

It's difficult to predict individual games, but I'd bet large money they'll win at least two. My in-laws are huge Kentucky fans, and they say the way they're playing, they'll get rolled by the Vols. It's all a matter of perspective. Like you, I'm extremely frustrated by the past four games, but in all likelihood, they'll put together another good stretch. It's a long season with many ups and downs. The Vols are too good to drop 8 of their final 9 regular season games.

I noticed something today that I had not noticed before during this season.
The MO coach showed confidence, stayed calm, continually praising and telling his players he believed in them, never panicked or verbally berated the officials. His players reflected his same demeanor and style. They could very well make a big run in the post season.

Hate to say it, but the team in orange and white showed the opposite today.
You realize how absurd this is, right? They came back from a 17 point deficit...... and lost to a low-percentage shot from half-court.

There are plenty of ignorant takes on here, but this is one of the worst.

you are entitled to your own opinion, guess what so am I.
Did you ever think they should never have been down by 17 points, especially at home, and how exactly did they get down by 17?
Doesn't change my point that the MO coach kept his players believing and showed poise coaching them up.
If you did not see that, well I’m not going to stoop to your level of calling you “ignorant” and not respecting your right to your own opinion.
I will just say you have orange colored glasses on.

The Vols showed a lot of poise in coming back from that deficit. There wasn't much difference between the two teams in that respect.
