How will all this negative energy surrounding Tennessee basketball affect recruiting?

I just got a group text from some sophs in hs and they aren't happy. That's about it. Gotta go. Somebody gave me some cookies and Chris Hansen is at the door.

YOU ARE KILLING RECRUITING...if that is your long term objective then you are doing it well...Pearl is not coming back...there was more than NCAA skeletons in his closet, unless you knew him well even before Tennessee then please don't comment.

What good does recruiting do when you don't have a coach that knows how to coach them?

Two ways to look at it. High profile players will not seriously consider UT with the uncertainty involved, and b. even if Marcus Smart, Marc Gasol, and Austin Nichols were to come next year, we don't have the coaches to win with them!

Those are some random players...

Most of the negative stuff I've seen is coming from the UT "fans". Almost like they want to "will" Pearl back with all of their negative comments. I will be interested to see if this approach is fruitful. Although I hope not. I wish we could support our boys and let the season play out. If we get a new coach @ the end, so be it.

When they bait and switch the subject. It happens in every thread.

I agree. It happens with the "Martinites", the "Pearlophiles", and those who remain unaffiliated. I don't call out every single one of them. Just those who attempt to distort my words by justification of oversimplifying my opinion on a totally different subject, which is what you did in this case.

I think what hurts recruiting the most is the players. Hey would you like to go to Tennessee and play basketball? See I don't even buy that. Players don't want to play in Knoxville. Or in Martins case. Stay in Knoxville. NIT poster boy. Can I say boy?

There's a lot of fans wanting Martin gone, including myself. I had high expectations for this team and I thought this would be our year, but it's turned into a disappointment. When we lose all our players next year, next year will even be a bigger struggle. Question is, as long as Martin is the coach and negative energy continues to surround Tennessee basketball, how bad could this affect recruiting wise? I'm sure the recruits would take notice.

Just with the rumors being so rampant about Martin possibly getting fired, even if he remains as the coach for next season, he will be labeled as a lame duck coach.

So, recruits will not want to commit to U.T. because he will be gone after next season.

So, (1) We lose McRae, Stokes & Maymon from this years team. (2) With Martin labeled as a lame duck coach, next years recruiting class will be lacking of
top talent.

Might as well fire him this year. Pay his buy out. Hire a new coach and next years recruiting class will be better. Plus with the right hire, it could bring excitement back to the program.

Most of the guys were getting probably need a place to go anyway so doesn't mean much at this time.

Pearl is a hall of fame coach already

Known more for lying and throwing an ill advised cookout rather than any tournament run his team made. Yeah I know about the elite 8, but this is a what have you done lately world we live in.
