How will they finish....

Considering we have 6 home games left... I say we end up right at .500 @ 15-15.

I would be happy with that in all honesty. Finish 5@@ show improvement make the nit and have a good showing, that would give confidence to players heading into next year.

I am really hoping for an NIT invite. Not sure if .500 would get us there unless we showed something in the conference tourney though

i think as long as we are 500 we will get an invite, our fanbase dwarfs some of the teams that get into the nit, so for money purposes alone i would imagine they would like for us to attend. JMO

Our fans don't historically travel well, especially in the NIT. If we host a round, lookout though

i can promise you our fan base would travel a hell of a lot better than probably 25% of last years field at minimun. we may not travel all that well for a school that has been succesful like we have, but alot of those schools dont have any fans travel besides the family and friends that travel with the team.

A lot of teams that have a fanbase wishing their team was in the big dance seem to not travel well at all to the NIT though.

i still have no doubt in my mind that we would travel better than close to probably 1/2 the teams in the field. obviously a lot would depend on where they put us, if we hosted we'd bring a great crowd, if we have to go to like freaking oregon or something forget it.

Usually teams are grouped by region. I would say MS or OH would probably be the furthest we would travel for the opening round given the "marquee" name of UT for a tourney like the NIT.

thats right i forgot that they arent like the ncaa and just completely put you wherever they feel if you arent a number 1 seed. with us being in that region i feel like would have a pretty good showing, definitely as i said much better than many of the other teams. not only that but as for the nit committee we are an easy sell for them and would probably provide a much better rating than many of the other teams.

remaining schedule:
vs auburn W
@ kentucky L
vs georgia W
vs south carolina W
@ florida W
vs arkansas W
@ alabama L
vs ole miss W
@ south carolina W
@ lsu W
vs vanderbilt W

finish season 18-13 (10-6)

We'll beat either Bama or Florida on the road. Too many hostile environments early not to be prepared for either one of these. If Memorial, fedex, and Rupp dont prepare this team for road games / envornments, nothing will. We should be riding high with vandy coming to town and i think we take this one.

2-1 in sec tournament. I see.....#6 seed and wins over South Carolina and Florida

#1 Kentucky - bye (winner of #8 LSU / #9 Ole Miss)

#2 Vanderbilt - bye (winner of #7 Arkansas / # 10 Auburn)

#3 Florida - bye (winner of #6 Tennessee / #11 South Carolina)

#4 Mississippi State (winner of #5 Bama / #12 Georgia)

Based on how we play on the road, I think we'll lose to LSU, even if we did somehow beat Florida or Alabama on the road (I can kinda see Florida because of the way we won at home). I just don't have a lot of confidence in this team against average-ish teams on the road. I guess I would have more if we had beaten a poor Georgia team. UT may (hopefully will) surprise me though - at least the game is at the end of the season.

i get exactly what you are saying i feel the same way. the way this team plays, INCONSISTENT, its really honestly pretty hard to predict game by game. i could clearly see UT beating florida at florida and bama at bama, but then i could see them losing at south caroline and at lsu. you just dont know what your going to get from them on a given night, maybe the tough road venues early on will pay off down the stretch.

What is killing me with the vols is that it seems like EVERY game we have a really bad drought. I was looking at the past few games and almost every game it has been like that, yet UGA was the only team to also have one.

Is our team just not conditioned like others? Or do we just have a horrible offense when it comes to scoring? List of the past few games, and any scoring drought over 3 minutes. This is points also, not just Field Goals. Uconn was actually like 6 minutes if you do not count some free throws

Vandy: 6min, 5min, and two 3 min
UConn: 4min
UGA: 5min UGA had 3 half min
UK: 7min & 5 min
Miss St: 5min

The UK game was the big killer since the 7 min drought was at the end.

I definitely don't think it's condition, I feel it's a few things. 1. We don't have a true pg running the team who knows what to do when we NEED a basket 2. Turnovers. We have untimely turnovers and too many of them 3. Bad shot selection. At many points during the game we take I'll advised shots, but when you need a basket you can ill afford to take bad shots.

Tn's major problem is that we have the worst set of guards in the SEC.
Some of that is youth but most is just a lack of talent.
We play a team on Saturday much like our own.
Their consistency is inconsistency.
Their strength is guard play which is our weakness.
They are also the kind of team that we play poorly against at home.
Play them soft at the guard position and the boo birds will be lighting up VN at 8pm saturday evening.

That makes sense. I just think it is crazy how poor they played at Vandy. Over 17 minutes without a point, but we did have tons of turnovers

The loss at Vandy was about 4 seniors that had been embarrassed by Pearl several times in his 6 year tenure.
No way they weren't going to give a struggling TN their best game.
Even without the 25 turnovers they would have willed a win against us.
When a couple of our guys got rattled it was over.

Good points all very true. Our strength is in the post but as is becoming clear it's very hard to get the ball there effectively if your guards can't play well.

Tennessee has improved in every category but the road this year. I don't see any reason why we don't improve this too. Playing in Maui, FedEx, Rupp, Vandy, Msu is some unlikely odds for a team losing so much and forcing to grow up. I think those places will only help us grow as a team because what other hostile envornments are worse for Ut than those 3? We should have seen it all by then. I don't see any home games we'll lose and as long as they dont get punched in the mouth early, we should be fine. Playing the best the sec has to offer, being really close in 2, winning 1, and getting the dog crap kicked out of us has to have this team ready

That scheduling we thought was insanely tough could turn out to be a blessing in disguise if the light bulb goes on for these guys!

You have us losing to Auburn @ home and then going on the road to Columbia and winning? I'm confused.
