these two candidates as far as it being the worst two options for president ever? Is this the worst we have ever had to choose from?

I don't know...This will only be my 2nd presidential election to vote in but I think this by far is the worst.

I agree, this is a pretty screwed up situation. A vote for Obama is a vote for Socialism and a vote for McCain is a vote for Democrats. Repubs are not in a good situation here. Where is that handsome fellow Mit? Good Lord, I'd vote for Sean Hannity... of course I'm a little partial to that sweet short smartypants!

I agree with you volnissniss! You are voting for the lesser of the two evils here...there isn't really any good choice to vote for.

It's the ebb and flow. This is what 8 years of one president buys you...things tend to go the other way over time (thus a very liberal Dem and a less conservative Rep on the parties' tickets). There's a good chance that whoever is elected will only serve 4 years. Heck, with McCain's age/health, it's possible that another Rep may even be making a push in 2012. Also - I, unlike you, do not think that McCain is a democrat. He may not be as conservative as some would like, but he isn't a democrat in my book.

maybe by your standards, but not by mine

I don't know if it is so much a question of standards, but opinion. I don't think that anymore all that much more conservative than McCain could be elected nationally right now. (I'm not saying he is electable to me by my standard necessarily, just that it is my opinion that his type is electable nationally.)

He's not what I would consider a republican either...

I tend to think that in what is largely a two party system here in the US, it is not all that realistic to have narrow definitions of the two major parties. As national sentiment and priorities shift, the parties' representatives shift as well in this type of system. If there were other truly viable parties, then you would see their rise and the republicans/democrats fall and vice-versa over time...but as it is...I just take a broader view of Rep/Dem and go with it.

Yes he is, he's a special kind.... - considering the mindset of today's independent voters after the Bush presidency, I would call him an "electable" republican.

TT is a special kind of confused himself :birgits_giggle: You picked a party yet baby? Come join us... Evidently you already wear the suit nicely up there

Did you miss the Bush - Kerry 2004 race...................McCain and Obama have raised the IQ 30 points over the last two candidates.

In a days of charisma and being able to rise a crowd I just do not see how McCain has the Republican ticket. Even though I'm voting for the guy he's just really dry when it comes to TV, interviews, etc.

Obama's whole "Change" platform just gets on my nerves.

I really do think McCain is the best for the job and I think Obama is biting off way more than he can chew. Way to inexperienced for the job, again in my opinion.

But, to answer Finey's question. Yes, since I have been following elections (I'm 23) so my first real experience was Clinton v. Dole.

The smear campaigns that go on and the access we now have to it with Internet and 24 hour news will make each politician appear this way until the end of time. There's too much money being spent by both sides to make the other guy look bad for anyone to appear appealing anymore. When the country becomes more interested in getting things done instead of the "I told you so, we were right, they were wrong" attitude then candidates won't appear to be so crappy.

I was just sayin your friends up there think you "wear a conservative suit", meaning they think you are conservative with conservative opinions. That's all I meant. My finger hurts so maybe I can't explain myself :birgits_giggle:

Ford/Carter, Bush/Dukakis, Clinton/Bush, Clinton/Dole, Nixon/Humphrey/Wallace, Bush/Gore and Bush/Kerry weren't exactly campaigns that make you run out to the polls either...
