Ben Frederickson is reporting that the coaching staff may be leaving towards shutting Hubbs down and getting him immediate surgery. I hate to see this because I think he could have came right in and contributed more. His shooting IMO was down because of the injury.

@Ben_Fred: Robert Hubbs Sr. on his son's left shoulder injury: "Right now we are leaning toward getting it fixed as soon as possible." Surgery likely.

@Ben_Fred: Hubbs Sr. said he would like the #Vols to pursue a medical redshirt for Robert Hubbs. Will be tight since he's played in 12 games.

@Ben_Fred: Hubbs Sr: "We would love for him to get a medical redshirt, just in case. If it doesn’t happen we are still going to get it done regardless"

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Well that stinks. At least he was able to give McRae and Richardson some breathers from time to time.

That's a damn shame. If Hubbs pans out though, the MRS won't be an issue.

I agree. I hope he gets it if not he's played 12 games and will have some experience going into next season. I'm happy they are trying to get it fixed now and that way he can rehab at his own speed and get him back healthy. Luckily I think it was his non shooting shoulder.

That sucks. It obviously played a role in his shooting woes. Good to get it fixed now so he can be ready for next season

Well, the silver lining (I guess), is he wasn't contributing much, and we have been winning without much from him anyway. This isn't a crushing blow, especially with the play of Reese. Hopefully Edwards can step up and provide an offensive spark like we've seen him do in garbage time.

I'm not worried about Edwards offensive game the dude has a nice 1st step and some really nice moves. He has to step up his defensive game

Yeah, I meant relative to Hubbs, who was awful defensively, so I doubt we see a dropoff there.

If Edwards can give us the 5 ppg that Hubbs was giving us, then he will have done his job. Any defense at all will be an upgrade.

I think he has the game to put up 5 ppg, but will see if that actually happens

Wasn't there rumors of dad being pissed and transferring him out???

If so perhaps this is to insure he can play next January after sitting out a year.

5 stars = no need for a 5th year

Agree. I think that's why his dad said they would do something immediately regardless of the redshirt situation.

Tough break. It would suck to be highly recruited (so people obviously expect more from you), make the transition from high school to college and then be hurt. Tough break for the kid so I hope he gets better and is the player we hope he can be next season.

Wouldn't he have to go ahead and transfer and enroll at his school of choice for Spring 2014 if he hoped to play in January of 2015?

Sitting out because of injury won't count as satisfying the the one-year sitting requirement as a transfer if he were still enrolled at the original school would it?

I think you are correct. He would have to leave now to play next January.

My mistake

If it was an injury concern then I don't think his father would take him out. But, if he's as good as we think he can be then all it really will take is one year, two at most of him playing healthy for him to go to the league anyway, so the redshirt won't matter.

The only thing I've ever heard is that Steven Pearl said on his radio show that Hubbs was threatening transfer if he didn't get playing time.

Even if true, Pearl seems kinda douchey for blasting it on the airwaves. I'm not sure I buy it. Hubbs doesn't seem like the type to do that.

The same guy that got playing time over Maymon.SMH
