haven't read it in years but I'm not sure how this could even work for every instance of the word in the book. The word 'slave' changes the meaning completely

You're not?

I would say no since religions aren't a race

The way the word is used today versus when it was written is drastically different. While I am not excited about changing literature like this, it isn't really anything to write home about.

I think leaving it in, allows us to see what the country was like back when it was written. I think it is a mistake to remove it, almost trying to change history

and it would be the job of the parent/teacher to educate the reader on the difference right? Twain knew what he was doing and I would bet he's infinitely smarter than the PC people pushing this. Might as well burn the old copies while they're at it

Suggesting that I am? Again you are talking out of the wrong end

are you a lib dem?

it was the dems who supported slavery. it is the dems who support planned parenthood which was created to abort black babies. the dems are the one who have the blatant history of being racist.

I vehemently disagree. The connotation of the word is completely different now. He wouldn't have used it if he were around in this century.

so you realize it's an older book? Congrats because the people pushing for word changes to pieces of literature don't seem to. Your post describes the type of discussion that should take place with readers by parents/teachers. But instead of having a discussion like that people just want to avoid the tough stuff altogether. It's lazy, stupid and frankly it's irresponsible.

did Shakespeare use any offensive words? The Bible? How many get changed "for the sake of the children"?
