Huge Braves Trade Rumor

Griffey for Salty and company?

No deal.

I wouldn't want it. Let Salty marinate a little more in the league and you'll have a real trade calling which involves many young pitching prospects. Griffey is past his prime and you can about bet he'll have some kind of injury before seasons end.

Trust me, Salty can bring in better players than Griffey. A Catcher that can hit and has a little glove is the biggest want in Major League Baseball besides a lefty that can give you 6+ innings every time.

Salty and others for Griffey??? No way in hell. An again Griffey who is on the DL every year, for a switch-hitting catcher with power who can play 1B. I think Salty is untouchable right now with McCann injured.

I met Jerry Narron earlier this year. He's.....well.....he's...eh...he's Jerry Narron, alright.

Just saw that he also coaches girls' HS basketball in Goldsboro, NC, which is right down the road from me. I might have to go check out a game next season just to see what he's like on the hardwood.

I'm going to guess sub- .500.

I'd much rather trade for Dunn than Griffey.
Then you've obviously never watched Dunn butcher balls in the outfield, run the bases as if he needs a seeing eye dog, or swing at 3 consecutive 54 foot sliders in a futile attempt to get a runner in from third with one out. He's a left handed hitting Rob Deer. Braves management has shown itself to be far too smart to trade for stiffs like Dunn.

I always thought that Kerns was much better than Dunn.

I'd trade Willie Harris in a heartbeat. He's been great, but I'd just assume let somebody else endure the inevitable slump that's coming o get him back down to his career average.

may as well trade K Johnson too, then!

I'd rather see the Reds play Norris Hopper in left everyday. At least he can catch routine flyballs and manage to get from first to third without falling on his face.

I don't know why you would give up pitchers when you have Cormier in the rotation giving up 5 runs a game. If they're good enough to give up for Griffey then why add to a strength and take away from a weakness?

Agreed. I can't imagine Johnny Sch. would make this deal.

I think I was hallucinating and thought Dunn played first base, actually. I don't know with whom I was confusing him.

Still, Dunn is way way better than what the Braves currently have at either 1B or LF (with apologies to Willie Harris, who has played way over his head for Atlanta this year). And given that Dunn would probably come a lot more cheaply than Griffey (since I believe he can opt out of his contract after this year), I still think I'd rather see them deal for Dunn. Especially if he could play first.

(I like Griffey, but I believe he's signed for a couple more years at a fairly high salary. Considering his age and how much he's hurt, he's just not worth what the Reds would want for him right now.)

The Braves do have some young pitching. Have you ever heard of JoJo Reyes, Matt Harrison, or Will Startup?

Reyes's ceiling is probably a back-of-the-rotation guy and Startup is probably a short reliever (but not closer). I'd be willing to deal either of them if it brought back somebody valuable. Harrison has a pretty good shot at turning into a valuable arm, though, and there are precious few of them in the organization. Given how miserable the Braves' rotation is and how old John Smoltz is, there's almost no way I'd trade him right now.
