Yeah it couldn't be that sales are down. And I don't necessarily agree that what they do is worth $30/hour either. But it's worth more than $8/hour.

It's worth about 12-15 honestly.

The plant had 121 million in wage overhead before factoring in healthcare and taxes.

That means they had to sell 1 million tires just to pay basic payroll. If the plant had of paid 30k per year only 500,000 tires would have been needed to make basic payroll. They would have been able to lower the cost per tire and increase demand instead of raising the cost per tire and shinking demand. They overhead was taking them out of the market.

Cant believe these factory workers were making around 30$/hr. I mean, I know I am way overpaid, but thats crazy they were making that wage. Hope they were financially responsible and prepared for this.

call me a jerk but this part really doesn't help their case at all- "no skills, no degree, no backup plan" but making $30/hr? Sorry but $8/hr sounds about right

I hate it that this is happening for these folks, but it sounds like they did it to themselves. Part of why unions suck, they drastically increase prices for the consumer and increase unemployment for workers. The piper always gets paid. TANSTAAFL.

You don't know what it is worth. It is worth what an employer is willing to pay and an employee is willing to accept. That is all. Trying to decide what work is 'worth' without taking into account what the market says is a path that leads to such things as plant closings.
