Huge fight involving Kansas [could impact our game with them Saturday]

It’s smart. De Sousa doesn’t matter much, so it makes Self look like he’s being proactive. Meanwhile, if the NCAA doesn’t force his hand on the others, he can say that their punishment will be handled “internally” and perhaps avoid losing them for any future games.

i doubt anyone else gets suspended. it’s one of those things where you’d have to suspend everybody or nobody and they just won’t do that in this day and age to a program of that stature

That sounds shady as all get out.

Which is probably why Self would do it.

From the BIG 12:

The Big 12 Conference today announced the following suspensions for the players involved in the altercation near the conclusion of Tuesday’s Kansas State at Kansas men’s basketball game:

Kansas
Silvio De Sousa – 12 games
David McCormack – 2 games

Kansas State
James Love – 8 games
Antonio Gordon – 3 games

Additionally, both programs were reprimanded for violations of the Big 12 Sportsmanship Policies as a result of players leaving the bench area during the incident.

“This kind of behavior cannot be tolerated and these suspensions reflect the severity of last evening’s events,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “I am appreciative of the cooperation of both institutions in resolving this matter.”

Not really sure how that complies with the NCAA rules on fighting being a guaranteed 1 game suspension and it listing leaving the bench to join a fight as you being considered fighting for purposes of the rule.

Weak.

Curious as to whether this is it or not. Per NCAA rules a conference can only add to penalties and can't reduce them. The rules require 1 game suspensions from the NCAA itself for players who leave the bench to join fights. I wonder if these multi-game announced Big 12 penalties are in addition to the 1 game NCAA penalties.

Pretty weak (especially considering Garrett's involvement seemingly going unpunished), but as far as how this could benefit us: this will force KU into playing more small ball than what they are probably accustomed to. Expect to see us go right at Azubuike early, especially if KU opens up in man to man defense. Him getting in foul trouble would pretty much them without a true post player if I'm not mistaken.
