Hurd's eligibility

While it was crappy the way he did the team, we don't know what's in this kid's mind. I do know how my mind "worked" when I was twenty and I sure feel lucky that I had people around me that saw some value in me and helped me out. I am not so generous to myslf when I think back. But, while Jalen was working within the team as a unit, he was heroic and I could not fathom how a man could repeatedly throw himself into defenses the way he did. He must have hidden the injuries, because they weren't evident on the field. I appreciate what he did while he was doing it. For that reason, i would hope that his return is not just a wild rumor. His return could be a true "Phoenix rising from the Flames" story, and make Tennessee even stronger. But, only the players and the coaches can make that kind of decision. Go Vols!

Bah humbug! I was 20 years of age, serving my country abroad as were a WHOLE lot of 19 thru 21 year olds, some of whom have their names on a rather famous and dark wall in Washington DC because they were killed never to see 22. Quit making excuses for this young man. He became a first class screw up plain and simple. He will not get the opportunity to make it up to UT or Vol Fans and in my opinion is so weak minded we are likely never to see him play another down of football. Can he out grow this? Yes. Will he? Not likely based on who he has had leading him around and counseling to be the screw up he is. By the way heroes are guys that do their duty and some of whom get killed in places like Kandahar, Mt. Sirabachi, Iwo Jima, Lexington, and Concord, not playing a kid's game on the gridiron unless your standards for heroes go that low.

He needed to have finished the season for that to happen

Ideally yes, but he's eligible without finishing the season. Once he quit getting ready for the NFL and declaring for the draft was his best option.

Even his Twitter account seems strange. https://twitter.com/mrhurd_1?lang=en

Maybe he's lost his feelings for football. Maybe he's got a little Johnny Manziel problem. Not sure, but it sure doesn't seem like he's all that interested in the game anymore. Maybe the politics of football were too big for him being a 5* from a small school. I hope he has a good life and finds himself. Time to move on for TN though.

Not strange at all. A few UT photos as a matter of history, but a post that said he is still transferring. Just seems accurate for the moment as he is between schools. Since much of Manziel's problems may be related to addiction, I hope Jalen doesn't have that monkey on his back. I may not care about him as a player anymore, but I hope he avoids that stuff.

The only way Hurd would come back is to try to break the all time rushing record, and then I literally think that once he got that record he would walk off the field mid game. That is the kind of guy he is. He is about Jalen, no one else. Coach, teammate, or otherwise.

How long have you known him? Sounds like you have close personal knowledge of his thinking.

I think he applies for the NFL rule 5 draft since he missed the deadline of the actual draft

Good theory! Had never thought of that. Would give him extra time to prepare and create competition for teams using a FUTURE draft pick.

Wow. Read my post again. I didn't call him a hero. More so
A flawed character with whom I understood because I wasn't perfect when I served in the army at the age of twenty. I had a couple of NCO's that saw good in me and helped me out. But, I'm not sure what the military has to do with this. This is just football. Thanks for helping me understand what a hero is. I sure didn't have a clue. (Apparently).

Correction - I guess I did call him a "hero" when I said his playing was heroic. Poor choice of words, I guess. Didn't mean to trigger anybody.

Note to self:
...while on "Vol" Nation
1. Don't show understanding for Jalen Hurd.
2. Don't show support for Coach Butch Jones
3. Probably don't support giving President Trump any time to start Presidentin'.
4. TBD...

I'll bet he just got burned out of all of it. The year around workouts and the tackling bag he became in CBJ offense. He wanted to quit his sophomore year from what I understand and Butch convinced him to come back. The position he played took a beating since grade school. He just was tired if it. He should have stayed in school and finished the semester at the very least.

Thought he finished the YEAR? If not, I agree...bad decision.

I'm not against him coming back. The defense could use a good tackling dummy to help improve their technique.
