The city is under mandatory evacuations now with 140+ winds expected.

I am going to stay here.

Hopefully my roof doesn't go flying off

DEVASTATING DAMAGE EXPECTED

HURRICANE KATRINA
A MOST POWERFUL HURRICANE WITH UNPRECEDENTED
STRENGTH...RIVALING THE INTENSITY OF HURRICANE CAMILLE OF 1969.

MOST OF THE AREA WILL BE UNINHABITABLE FOR WEEKS...PERHAPS LONGER. AT
LEAST ONE HALF OF WELL CONSTRUCTED HOMES WILL HAVE ROOF AND WALL
FAILURE. ALL GABLED ROOFS WILL FAIL...LEAVING THOSE HOMES SEVERELY
DAMAGED OR DESTROYED.

THE MAJORITY OF INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS WILL BECOME NON FUNCTIONAL.
PARTIAL TO COMPLETE WALL AND ROOF FAILURE IS EXPECTED. ALL WOOD
FRAMED LOW RISING APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED. CONCRETE
BLOCK LOW RISE APARTMENTS WILL SUSTAIN MAJOR DAMAGE...INCLUDING SOME
WALL AND ROOF FAILURE.

HIGH RISE OFFICE AND APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL SWAY DANGEROUSLY...A
FEW TO THE POINT OF TOTAL COLLAPSE. ALL WINDOWS WILL BLOW OUT.

AIRBORNE DEBRIS WILL BE WIDESPREAD...AND MAY INCLUDE HEAVY ITEMS SUCH
AS HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES AND EVEN LIGHT VEHICLES. SPORT UTILITY
VEHICLES AND LIGHT TRUCKS WILL BE MOVED. THE BLOWN DEBRIS WILL CREATE
ADDITIONAL DESTRUCTION. PERSONS...PETS...AND LIVESTOCK EXPOSED TO THE
WINDS WILL FACE CERTAIN DEATH IF STRUCK.

POWER OUTAGES WILL LAST FOR WEEKS...AS MOST POWER POLES WILL BE DOWN
AND TRANSFORMERS DESTROYED. WATER SHORTAGES WILL MAKE HUMAN SUFFERING
INCREDIBLE BY MODERN STANDARDS.

THE VAST MAJORITY OF NATIVE TREES WILL BE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. ONLY
THE HEARTIEST WILL REMAIN STANDING...BUT BE TOTALLY DEFOLIATED. FEW
CROPS WILL REMAIN. LIVESTOCK LEFT EXPOSED TO THE WINDS WILL BE
KILLED.

AN INLAND HURRICANE WIND WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR
HURRICANE FORCE...OR FREQUENT GUSTS AT OR ABOVE HURRICANE FORCE...ARE
CERTAIN WITHIN THE NEXT 12 TO 24 HOURS.

ONCE TROPICAL STORM AND HURRICANE FORCE WINDS ONSET...DO NOT VENTURE
OUTSIDE!

I'd get out of there if it was me but if you're staying for family reasons, you're a good person! I'll be thinking about ya, hope all is well!

Hey U-T...think about an alternative plan for the family reasons and get them out of there too, or whatever.

Man, this is only the fourth Cat 5 to hit the U.S....This isn't your average hurricane.

Give it some thought and see if there is a plan B, my friend.

We will all pray that if you have to stay, all will be okay, but if you can, just load up everyone and go somewhere until...

I just hope it doesn't mess with Baton Rouge. I'd really HATE to play that game in Knoxville!

In all seriousness, be safe U-T. And save some of that Jack for Saturday.

Tropical storm force winds are hitting New Orleans now with heavy rain, according to the Weather Channel.

This is scary.

I just read that even OUR area (West Tennessee) is under an inland tropical storm watch.

Tomorrow I will be busy putting together an emergency preparedness kit.

Category 5 hurricane with 160 mph sustained winds bearing down directly on New Orleans. Projected to hit NO early Monday. Hope you were able to get your family out of Louisiana U_T. Also hope if you stayed you are not in New Orleans. New Orleans is below sea level and they are talking 20 foot storm surges. All of our prayers are with everyone in the path.
