Not true. I'm south of Jax and we are about to get slammed with up to 12" of rain. Not to mention we're already soaked with well over our average outside of this system. Been here 15 years and I'm nervous on this oneGood news is projections show your area on the left side of the storm which has less rain and wind. Still some damage but not like the eye and east side. Been thru both sides.
Currently expected storm surge for your area is 9-15 feet. Do you know your surrounding topography (in feet above sea level) for your house, roads around you, etc.?Sitting here in Tampa myself … I will trade a few days without power and cold showers for a crushing defeat of the gators .. please and thank you … will just suck if I’m unable to watch it
When we lived in Miami folks told us that hurricanes were "necessary evil" to replenish the lakes, Everglades, reservoirs, etc. It's a choice of whether the State burns up from drought or deals with heavy rainfall (often accommpanied by high winds, surf, etc.)Then first thing you learn when you move to Florida is when/how to prep for hurricanes and where/when to evacuate. If you don’t know, your neighbors will drill it into your head. J/k. Good folks down here and we all take care of each other when storms come. It’s almost just a standard operating procedure.
Be safe down there brother. My wife and I left Florida in June to come back home to TN. I am with you in that this storm of all that I was in since 03 scares me more than any of them. My friends who still live there are on my mind and in my prayers. Tampa and the surrounding area is going to struggle significantly with the impending storm and surge. This hurricane coming in isn't a joke....ground already soaked and this thing is a monster headed for mid Florida......I'm betting that if the Gators haven't left already they may have a hard time getting up to Knoxville after Wed.
Also, (PSA) About to head out to work the next 3 days on the road (we'll work shelters Wed night and Thurs) here in Orlando. Just wanna tell all my brothers and sisters here in Florida, been down here since 04' and this one scares me. If you haven't left, roads are already slammed and bumper to bumper so you may be better off moving inland and hunkering down. God be with us all

Never said there would not be a lot of rain and damage. Just said its less intense on the left side than the right side. Lived in FL for 15 yrs most in the Tampa Bay area so not an expert on hurricanes but you learn a lot about them when you live there. Also lived on the East coast for 3 yrs and went thru 2 hurricanes. Not true. I'm south of Jax and we are about to get slammed with up to 12" of rain. The hurricane has been known about for a while now. No excuse for Florida not working around it. All this is wishful thinking cause you all know Tennessee is going to get stomped on their own field by Florida yet again. They lost a ton of talent in the off season. They had major distractions this season. Their head coach is under tremedous fire. Still yet, they will come in here, complete 9 of 10 third downs and 29 of 30 pass attempts. That's the way it is. Learn it. Expect it. Live it.
It is a land of extreme. 30+ here myself. Moved from Fayetteville, TN to North Florida (West of Gainesville)in the early 90s with my parents. It's either very hot and dry or wet for days on end and cold. It does get cold here. Florida is not a good retirement state in my opinion. My patients that are new to Florida never realize how extreme it is. Some stay and some leave. Not a good state for people with chronic heart issues, but we do have the best doctors. When we lived in Miami folks told us that hurricanes were "necessary evil" to replenish the lakes, Everglades, reservoirs, etc. It's a choice of whether the State burns up from drought or deals with heavy rainfall (often accommpanied by high winds, surf, etc.)
