Hurts transfer

it would be dumb for him to leave imo. injury or Tua having a slow game and he is right back in it.

It's dumb for a lot of kids to leave, but they do anyway. Especially when they get people they respect/look up to (parents, etc.) chirping in their ear.

Hurts strikes me as smarter and more mature than your average college football player though.

Dobbs getting paid to be on a NFL roster as a quarterback.

Hurts isn't accurate on mid-range passing and struggles to read defenses. He was trying to work on it today, but ended up holding the ball way too long leading to multiple sacks.

Predict he transfers at some point.

Hurts takes care of the ball. Still to be seen if Tua can. He threw some dangerous passes this year. It may not be a clear cut case of Tua taking the job anyway.

No dude, it’s beyond clear cut. Those “dangerous passes” from a true freshman, inexperienced Tua last year resulted in an 11-2 TD to Int ratio last year. And yes, we know Tua can run the football, saw all I needed to see from him in the title game vs UGA, although Tua’s ability to play light years better than Hurts from the pocket is much, much important.

From all I know about Jalen he is a great kid..Hang in there Jalen and I wish you the very best...Keep your head up and just continue to improve..Check in on Peyton Manning and watch all the time he put in both during the season and also during the offseason..all the way until he retired..Its all about work and honing your skills every season

The fact that the article mentions what Lane Kiffin thinks about the situation diminishes it's credibility, IMO.

Read that he didn't have a great Spring game. In the current situation, I think it is better for him not to start and focus on his passing fundamentals this fall. He can be a grad transfer and play somewhere next year.

His passing fundamentals haven't improved in the two plus years he's been on campus. I have trouble believing he's going to magically improve with another year and a half before draft day. I think he needs to make a go at slot receiver or H-back. He has no NFL future at QB.

From his standpoint (if he's gonna make a move depending) why would he not want to know sooner rather than later.

If Jalen wants to compete through fall camp it sounds like Dad and son are not on the same page. Coach Saban would love for both to be here for another season. He has stated he would like both to play a role during the season. Is that good enough? Dad doesn't sound like it.

Both want to know right now. Saban wants to know he has a ready and capable option B if Tua gets hurt or has issues. Sounds like dad wants to know his kid is the guy and not necessarily a split or wait and play it out. The problem is Saban is not going to tell him what he wants to hear.

Its interesting that dad and son have these different opinions publically.

Tua raised the bar on what a total QB looks like. Hurts doesn't have the ability to match that, but would probably still be the starter (and look better) if he were not compared to Tua at this point.

Nor any other good coach worth his salt. And certainly not at Alabama. I've never known Jalen to shy away from any competition, so to allow his Dad's word about playing or else to be the last word on the subject is not doing him any favors.

Agreed. Sounds like daddy needs to shut up and let his son work that out.

I don't think it matters either way tho. His dad is not gonna prevent him from starting, Tua is doing that. Now Saban may get his fill of and move on. Recruiting well gives you that added advantage.

Observation. Tua had an astounding NC game.....

What if he's not that good all the time?? How does anyone know that's what you get from Tua every time? How do you say a 26-2 starter sucks and just benefitted from the team around him? Same team that will be around Tua.

I don't disagree with your general view, and he won't be that good all the time, but it is hard to deny that Tua has significantly more arm talent than Hurts does.

Hurts is an extremely disciplined player who limits his mistakes, but he is limited as a passer. Perhaps his best quality is that he (and the coaching staff) know this and he doesn't try and force things that aren't there.

Alabama is so good at running the ball and on defense that they have a great chance of winning any game no matter who the QB is, but Tua might give them an even better chance to win games.

Fixed your post.

It depends on how mistake-prone he is. With the exception of the national title game last year, he played mop up duty against crappy defenses. Can he play full-time, not just in spots that maximize his chances of success, and not derail drives with turnovers?

It does, but even he can be coached and put into positions where he is less apt to make mistakes. I don't see Bama handing him 40+ passes a game and they don't have to.

He has the ability to take Bama's offense to a level Hurts couldn't. That will come with more risk, but the payoff is also higher. You could plug in a lot of QBs at Bama and win a high percentage of games. Its that handful of teams in the country that are good enough to make their QB make some plays (especially throwing) to win a game thats the objective in the risk/reward.
