Hurts, Tua and Jones

They are all young QBs on poor teams. Did Trevor Lawrence have his "privilege" removed too?

Why people expect young or rookie QBs to come into the league and immediately play well, even when they are on really bad teams, is amazing to me. It's the position on the field you should expect the least from a young player.

Former starting QB's for Alabama, now starting QB's in the NFL have a combined 6-15 record this season.
Amazing what happens when the "Bama priveledge" is removed in the NFL.
If you aren't aware of Peyton's rookie season with Indy, I advise you to NEVER look it up.

This is all true, but I also believe Bama spoils these kids when they are surrounded by that kind of talent and have 10 seconds to go through their progression.

Jim Mora's "Playoffs?" rant where he talks about the 5 turnovers (including 4 interceptions)? That's Peyton. I don't think many remember that. He threw 28 INTs that year.

Yet they’re still good enough to start as rookies in the NFL, in spite of being “spoiled”.

I don't doubt it. I never quite understood the high NFL prospects people made for Tua in particular (there isn't any single skill or attribute he appears to be great at). But most young QBs, especially rookie QBs, struggle. For every Justin Herbert there are like 5 Josh Rosens. And even the young QBs that end up playing well take some lumps early (Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield).

I think Jones is going to turn out to be pretty good. Give him a couple of years.

Jones has got the least help at the skill positions of all three, but his offensive line is significantly better than the turnstiles in front of Hurts and Tua.

Not doubting the talent, but there are a lot rookies rated as good enough to start, get drafted, then flop.

If Bryce Young is playing for UT this year is he still a heisman candidate? The talent around these guys in college can make somebody average look really good. In Bama’s case, there is no drop off over the entire 3-4 years they are in college.

A fair point.

It is the main reason individual awards are rooted in a bad concept. You cannot separate the amazing person from the amazing team around him ( with a few notable exceptions).

I agree. Get him a couple of really good wide receivers and he’s going to light it up.
