This was my project yesterday at work. Is this what copper pipe is supposed to look like?šŸ˜‚šŸ˜šŸ˜‚ can anyone guess what kind of pipe insulation that is? First correct answer gets a free vacation to Bora Bora (not) šŸ˜‚ Also can anyone guess what causes it to oxidize and corrode that badly? Hint for both of those questions: The building was built in 1967.

Taste test is the only way to positively identify it.

Looking around $300 in material, a little more if you have to make the whip between the spa sub panel and tub. Iā€™d estimate the whole job $450-$700 depending on the installer. By that I mean a competent guy doing side work or an electrical contractor paying full rates.
Got it. What does " the whip" mean? I was quoted $840. I felt that was a little high

A whip is like the connection from your HVAC unit to its disconnect in water proof flexible conduit.
Yep, except tub to panel and not HVAC. But pretty much the same thing. $850 seems a bit on the high end but I havenā€™t laid eyes on it, so there could be variables I havenā€™t factored in.

Got an interesting situation.

I rent, so I cant fix the issue myself. At least if its invasive.

But there is water backing up into my dishwasher. I am guessing its backing up and not a leak because it is intermittent.

It is not backing up into my tubs, which should be the same elevation.

You can run the dishwasher and at the end all the water drains away.

When I have called out my apartment complex they just run the dishwasher and say it's fixed. But it keeps coming back. The smell gets pretty bad too, if I forget to run it every couple of days.

Any ideas on something I can do?

Not sure where its backing up from, doesnt appear to be the toilet, based on visuals.

I am wondering if there is some suction in the system? I havent noticed any other plumbing issues or noises. Water hammer or anything else not draining properly.

I havent scientifically studied it enough to even know if the back up is from my sink, or if maybe the unit behind.

Obviously as a renter I am very limited on what I can do.

@LouderVol
Dishwasher ā€œshouldā€ drain thru a disposal. Make sure the disposal is clean & clear.
Fill the kitchen sink with hot water, remove the sink stopper and run the disposal to flush out debris. Pour a couple cups of ice down the disposal afterwards & run it will also help clear clogs

No disposal. There is a switch that does nothing, and when I looked under the sink I didnt see anything beyond the PVC.

It doesnā€™t have to be through a disposal. How does the grate look in the bottom of the dishwasher? Also filter cleaning is a biggie. You can YouTube how to do that, very simple and easy.

Yikes. What does that wire go to in regards to the schematics? Definitely shorted out.
Hooked onto a terminal on the back of the blower motor. My guess was due to its location, the belt caught it and pulled it a little loose and had a loose connection and was constantly shorting and getting hot until it melted and broke off of the terminal. Funny how the only symptom was the heat on the dryer wasnā€™t working but would still tumble and everything. I havenā€™t finished it yet but will let you know if it fixes the problem or not. I took a meter and checked everything and it was all good.

Is your sink drain slow? My dishwasher drain in my house is just tapped into the PVC under my sink. Fill the sink up with a few inches of water and take a toilet plunger to one side while covering the other side (assuming you have a double sink). If its clogged, that will clear it.

Also that's a total shot in the dark I dont really know what I'm talking about, but I have cleared multiple drains using the toilet plunger method. Especially handy for the shower drain.

stripped the wire and put a new terminal on and ziptied it to the rest of the wires and has been running like a champ since. I will say though, putting the dryer belt back on is a b****!
There has to be a better way to turn that drum. I was just in one a month ago to help my brother in law change the motor and belt.

Has anyone ever stacked washers and dryers from different brands? Everything I read online gives mixed opinions. Currently have LG front loader washer and matching dryer. Washer went out and is going to be more expensive to fix then to just buy a new one. Havenā€™t had great luck with lgs in the past so was thinking of switching brands but also donā€™t want to have to replace a perfectly good dryer if I didnā€™t have too. Any thoughts?

What do you mean by ā€œstackedā€?

Dryer sitting directly on top of the washer. Our laundry room is narrow so the dryer has to sit on top of the washer.
Most of the time that wonā€™t work unless itā€™s compatible with each other. Most of the time. Really depends on the size and the way the machine sits.

Thatā€™s kind of what I figured. Guess Iā€™ll just do another LG instead of buying a whole new set. Thank you for the reply.

I live in an older home (1959) and still have the original oven in the kitchen. Its a old GE wall oven. It recently quit working. The power light comes on but neither element will come on. Its hard to find info on the internet on these old things so maybe someone on VN can help me out.

I'm planning on remodeling in the next year so I really don't want to have to replace it.
