I’m a Barnes critic, but paying him $5 mil a year vs whatever Cuonzo made…

Agree.

Coach Martin was far from the best or worst coach we've had.
He wasn't one of my favorites as a coach but he didn't mail in his effort and he appeared to be a fundamentally good person, though extremely reserved.
The petition was a terrible idea and was handled poorly all around.
It is good that he left as he was unlikely to ever succeed long-term at UT.
It was a LONG time ago and I can't imagine why folks like to pick at scabs. Let it go. GBO!
Don’t you think the reason the issue keeps coming up is because the race card is continually played? To me, generally it is the trigger. To me, his resignation was not racially motivated , just as the departure of Kevin O’Neill, Jerry Green, or Buzz Peterson had nothing to do with race. My issues with Martin was not the color of his skin, it was the product I saw on the floor. He has proven at multiple stops since his departure that the issues at UT were legitimate and it had nothing to do with race.

By the players’ accounts, Cuonzo is a good man who develops boys into responsible young men. He’s been dealt some bad cards with player injuries, and other odd variables. He may or may not be a great coach, or develop into one. He was a bad fit here. I wish him the best. He seems like a good man.
"He may be a great coach". Now that's funny right there. You can't get good comedy like that anymore.

If Cuonzo had arrived at TN under different circumstances I think that he could have been moderately successful. Maybe even better than that over a long time frame. He is now damaged goods and needs to return to his Missouri State level roots.

Fred Hoiberg, by comparison, was killing it at Iowa State. Now he’s 21-62 at Nebraska. He didn’t suddenly get stupid. He’s just made poor career decisions that haven’t worked out. Cuonzo followed the worst possible situation at UT of any of the previous 8 or 9.

was an ugly scene all around and CCM having to follow BP did not help. That obviously wasn’t something that CCM could help but it just was another mitigating factor contributing to things going sideways. The only “positive “ … if you want to call it that is that the petition and other nonsense fired up the team to fight for Cuonzo which resulted in a somewhat unlikely S16 run .
It is a serious stretch to give the people who were calling for the coach’s ouster credit for his team performing well in the tournament. That’s some impressive mental gymnastics lol

Except in the NCAA tourney at Tennessee.
3 wins, 2 of those in one year.
It will take a fortunate draw this year to make it 4 wins.
Would love to hear Tennessee’s history of success from you in the ncaa tournament from other coaches outside of Pearl…trust me there isn’t a lot

But we now are paying elite coach money.
The Vol tournament record overall sucks.
We think we are a football school.

We are paying Barnes because we wouldn’t be where we are now without him…we are lucky to have him and tournament results is all about the draw and luck sometimes, he will get his wins..the biggest thing is the more opportunities we have at the ncaa tournament the more chances Tennessee gets in making a run sometime. Barnes gives us those opportunities..

I know at least Maymon said at the time that it motivated the team . Whether it really had any effect is debatable but if you had asked
Me at any point pre tourney I wouldn’t have put much faith in them playing past the first weekend if at all in the NCAAT
