I'm not sure. If you can get to Hot Springs, NC in good time then this route is faster. Just follow my map once you get into TN.

Nov 1, 2009 #30 volwindy sunshine hiker Joined Sep 6, 2005 Messages 94,325 Likes 39,400 Nov 1, 2009 #30 we ended up doing 25 to 321 for the drive, nice scenic route, but going up there took a bit because people slowed down for the rain and we got behind a truck which is awful when there are so few opportunities to pass. Going back wasn't as bad.
