if we do not get Gruden....or one of our other top choices, i.e. Peterson, Patterson or Stoops etc, how about Jim Leavitt. He led USF from scratch to a formidable opponent that was beginning to be a powerhouse. He recruited well and has the ties to South Florida....just throwin it out there....

He's a good coach but I don't think he could cure what ails Tennessee. So no thanks.

its pretty much a no brainer here.. we need a homerun hire. it's obvious we cannot take another chance. we took a chance the last couple times and look where it got us.

I completely agree about not taking a chance, but this guy is proven winner and recruiter. He started the football program from Day 1 and took it to the top 5 at one point. I know he is not the big name hire we all want but he is proven....and he can recruit.

Let's go lure Jimmy Johnson out of retirement. He was successful both in College and the NFL.

This is THE most crucial hire in UT football history. Get it right and we would be back to where we deserve to be. Get it wrong, we will slide into a long, long period of mediocrity and take a severe hit to our reputation as a football school... Leavitt is not the answer.

I agree that it is a very crucial hire....but if we miss on the top tier who would you rather have, Strong, Smart, Briles or someone like Leavitt who has been a winner and coach of a top 10 program....

Agreed. Mora Jr, Gruden, Gundy, Stoops, gasp even Petrino or GTFO!!!!

Can someone explain to me why Jim Mora, Jr. would pull up and leave UCLA after 1 year for UT? I'm sure that they have people that would up the ante to keep him there. Same goes for Gundy and even more so because he is an alum of OSU and T. Boone Pickens would allow a siphon to run from his pocket to Gundy's bank account. I would say the same about Stoops until I read he has shown some "backdoor" interest. Petrino, well yeah, I gasp too, but if the choice is getting back to winning on the Hill or taking a shot on a up and comer or coordinator, I will choose winning. Hopefully TMZ will not follow Petrino when he takes his Harley to Gatlinburg! :)

Basillio's blog has answered my questions about Mora Jr.

"Bob Stoops and Jim Mora Jr. Both guys let it be known through back channels that they would be willing to listen to UT about coaching Tennessee."

"Jim Mora Jr. is a guy who's got an OK at UCLA job but it's not the Tennessee job. Mora Jr. knows the South. His people have let it be known that he would have interest in talking to Tennessee. He's a defensive guy who has the look, the passion and the NFL pedigree. His ultimate dream job is University of Washington. But he’s not going to get a good look at that for a good decade since young Steve Sarkesian will win enough to keep those folks there happy"

The statement that his dream job is UW kind of contradicts what Tony said though.

Your just a grade A douche....your the internet tough guy bc you realize that you can be a douche and hijack a thread without any repercussions. I suggested a name that is legit if we fail with the top tier and you don't have any viable input and just try to be a comedian. Hope your having a good day down in your mommas basements trying to be an instigator so you can hide your lack of intelligence.
